My husband was going to Pittsburg overnight for work so the kids and I decided to tag along. Initially, we planned on going to the National Aviary. We ultimately were unable to locate it and landed at the children's museum. We knew the aviary was close by and decided to go here first and if time, we would head try to locate the aviary.
So the visit included myself, 3 year old son and 14 year old daughter. Of course the 3 year old loved it, but the 14 year old has a great time too and they spent quality time together! My sons favorite areas were the garage and the art room. He loved the huge tires he could play in and the slide there. He really enjoyed painting, making his own piece of paper, helping with the collage and the screen printing areas. We were here for about 3 1/2 hours. Definitely could have spent more time if 1) the waterworks area was open 2) we had gone to the outside playground area and 3) had we not wanted to get the aviary in too. If in the area again we would definitely return! There is also a cafeteria type place there as well. We did not eat there but would have had I known it was there! Truly a fun time had by all!! If you are thinking of doing both the children's museum and aviary you can definitely so them both in one day. We arrived about noon to the children's museum and were able to do both. Although I would recommend starting the day earlier if the waterworks area is open!
