“Christmas at Frick”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

You have to go there at Christmas; if not, take your mother there on Mother's Day, or go there for a nice afternoon tea with a friend. The art gallery has some of the best permanent collections of impressionaistic art (Millet is there).

“Pittsburgh also had power people in the Gilded Age; learn about one of them.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Frick earned his fortune by supplying coal to the steel mills, which are a hallmark of Pittsburgh. Take the tour of his house, Clayton (if you can get a local Entertainment or Enjoy coupon book, there are 2-for-1 coupons.) You'll get a good idea of how the Gilden Age was lived in Pittsburgh. The guide explained that this is essentially the only millionaire's house still standing in the city. Although my tour guide explained many things about the house itself, I was disappointed that she did not spend more time/focus on the Fricks themselves. Hopefully other tour guides do this; had I known the emphasis was going to be more on the house I would have waited for another guide, as the tours leave regularly and are plentiful. Next time I plan to ask the guide upfront if he/she will also focus on the owners of the house. Nevertheless, my visit here was definitely worth the time. The site is easy to find, and if you need to call for directions they are very clear. There is ample free parking, and Frick Park is right across the street. Also on the estate grounds are a coffee shop and a free car museum--do this also--and a free art museum that houses many of Mrs. Frick's treasures. The only thing you need reservations for is the house tour. Check the website; many concerts and other events are offered on the estate throughout the year. Pittsburgh was certainly a big-time player in the industrial age; after your visit here you'll appreciate one of its key players. If you're a local Pittsburgher you've probably heard of the Fricks, as there is also an office building named after the millionaire, but this visit may inspire you to learn more.

“Spectacular.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

The tour guide was friendly and knowledgable. The preservation of the home was incredible. A very interesting tour. A group of friends took it together and we enjoyed it very much.

“I Could Go Here Every Season”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

This is a beautiful mansion that changes with the seasons. You have to visit at Christmas and see what a Victorian Christmas was like. But you also have to visit in the summer, and spring, and fall. Every time I've gone I've learned something new and seen something I hadn't seen before.

“Museum”

I love the antic cars collection which are very old since 1800s and 1900s. First time seeing those in my life.
