“Good for Easter Brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

We went to Bridges for their Brunch Buffet on Easter Sunday. The restaurant is located inside the Holiday Inn University Center, just off of 5th Ave in Pittsburgh's Oakland section, about 1/2 block from the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Chapel. Their parking lot is accessed by either Tennyson or Lytton Ave, and the Hostess will give you a validation card for free parking. It is 3 blocks from St Paul's Cathedral, and is also convenient to CMU, Carlow, Chatham and the Shadyside area.

Bridges is an attractive space, with two large distinct dining rooms, an outside seating area, and a full bar. It is accessed through the Hotel Lobby. There was a sign posted there indicating they also have live music at times, but there was none on Easter while we were there. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive for a buffet. They actually seemed to be enjoying their interaction with the Holiday diners. We had reservations for 11am, and as the place was quickly filled to capacity, we were glad we had decided to come early. Restrooms are ample and clean, and located within the restaurant itself, rather than out in the Hotel Lobby which is often the case in such establishments.

The bountiful buffet featured both breakfast and dinner dishes including carving stations (ham, leg of lamb, salmon and prime rib); griddle station (omelettes, pancakes, french toast); hash browns, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs; breads (sweet rolls, scones, muffins, biscuits); several different types of salads (artichoke & red pepper, garden, a few pastas, seafood); veggies (mashed potatoes, asparagus w hollandaise, steamed mixed); desserts (cakes and pies, parfaits and fresh fruit). The adult price @$24.95 includes all the above plus juices and coffee/tea. They also offer an array of breakfast cocktails including favorites Mimosas and Bloody Marys. There were 4 of us, and everyone gave positive reviews of all but the tortellini salad which was dry and the pasta itself hard.

We lingered well beyond the 2 hr mark and were not at all rushed. Because it was such a pleasant meal, I am sure we will be returning for other occasions. Strongly recommend for delicious food and great service.

“Sloooooooow service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

Food can be great here, but the service sucks. The restaurant seems short-staffed. Every server I had was running around overwhelmed. At one point the server entirely forgot about our order. That was the last time I stopped going there.
