This wonderful spot should not be missed when visiting the south side of Pittsburgh. As we entered the restaurant we immediately noticed the enormous beers being joyfully tipped by those already inside. But more on that in just a bit. The Hofbrauhaus is located right on the river and must be wonderful during the warmer months. With many, many bench style tables lining the lower patio. Our visit is taking place in November and indoors is just right. There is a large seperate dinning room on one side, a heated/covered patio area on the other and in the middle a gigantic bar/pub area. This pub area offers live entertainment and plenty of buzzzz. It should be noted that on the night of our visit this portion was definately a young adult happening. Out table on the covered patio was comfortable. We were waited on a knowledgable young lady who was very familiar with both the menu and beer brewed on site. We started with very tasty app, 3 potato pancakes served with applesause and sour cream. We commented to one another they were stellar in flavor and texture! We ordered two entres, the Sauerbraten dish and Schweinbraten. These were beef and pork roast selections, both served with sauerkraut and potatoes. The compliment to these wonderful entres were lagers, one light the other premium. There was also a dunkle, a weis and a seasonal Octoberfest on draught that night. Beers are served in 16oz glasses or the 1.0L giant mug.
We will most definately be back to try even more for the food menu and several more beers yet untried on our initial visit.
