“A pleasant and comfortable place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2004

We stayed at the Inn for three days this past summer (2004). The Inn itself is nicely restored and the innkeepers made us feel very much at home. Our room was large, the beds were quite comfortable and the continental breakfast was very good. There is a beautiful park across the street, although the neighborhood is still somewhat run-down in places. While there is no parking on the Inn's property, we had no trouble finding a parking space on the street out front. The location is great, especially if you are going to Northside destinations like the Warhol Museum and the Mattress Factory. It is also very close to the stadiums. The place was remarkably quiet for being in the middle of the city and the front porch is a great place to sit and have coffee in the morning. Although we are not exactly world travelers, we truly enjoyed our stay at the Inn and would gladly stay there again.

Absolutely gorgeous inn. Remarkable attention to detail. We stayed in the front room, upstairs, which was spacious and homey. (Our only complaint with the decor would be the creepy stuffed squirrels. We weren't sure what purpose they served.)

The inn keepers were so friendly and were always on-hand (either in person or by cell phone) to help with restaurant and tourist suggestions.

The continental breakfast was generous and fresh. We chose to eat on the front porch, facing a beautifully landscaped park dotted with ponds and ducks.

We did find the neighborhood a little shady, however. just a few blocks over are some pretty run-down/abandoned houses and even a X-rated theater. But, we were out at night and didn't feel threatened.

We stayed here at the end of the baseball season in 2003. There were some issues with the parking, but the hotel was beautiful. It is within walking distance to PNC park, and our room was large and very clean, and the whole place is beautifully kept and very romantic. They have a wonderful front porch, where you can take a beverage from the kitchen and go sit. The breakfast is just OK. I would highly recommend it for couples.

I stayed here this summer at the end of a trip "back home". A wonderfully restored property, the Inn offers comfort, style and grace.
As a guest, you must remember that this *is* an old house, with the creaks and groans and delicate nature of an older property still being upgraded. The innkeepers were warm and hospitable, offering a suggestion of where to go in the neighborhood for a friendly dinner and a beer at a small pub up the street. In typical Pittsburgh style, you're welcomed as part of the family, no matter where you're from. I'm looking forward to returning and exploring more of this still-being-gentrified neighborhood. Two snaps up, girlfriend.

I cannot believe that I have lived in Pittsburgh for 29 years and have let this "treasure" pass me by. That is until the weekend of Valentine's Day. Karl & Jeff, the innkeepers, are one of a kind. Most accommodating to say the least. They have truly taken their time to make The Inn on The Mexican War Streets one of the most beautifully restored mansions in our area. The rooms are elegantly furnished and decorated. We felt like we royalty. I am not sure what their secret is on the comfortable bed in the "green room" (which is the room we stayed in) but I can honestly say that I have never slept better in my life. And the breakfast....to die for! The stay was so wonderful that we have plans for the upcoming weekend. We are taking my sister there for a birthday present and know that this will be the best present an older sister can give! If you are planning a stay in Pittsburgh or even live in Pittsburgh, The Inn on The Mexican War Streets is a must do!

This property looks like a castle...really fabulous architecture and beautiful inside as well as out. It's thankfully not one of those smothering, fussy B&B's where you are expected to "mingle" with other guests at breakfast or engage in long conversations with the owner. If you feel like having a quiet night in, each room has a VCR and movies and popcorn are provided. Lots of munchies left around for guests to enjoy. Simple continental-style breakfast. If you want to explore Pittsburgh, this location is really great since you're practically next door to the Mattress Factory (one of the best places for installation art/contemporary art). Also very close to the stadium, Science Center, and Warhold museum...and just a bridge away from downtown. Highly recommended.
