“Great location, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

We chose this hotel primarily based on location to PNC park for a ballgame. It was just a 10 minute walk. The room were on the smallish side, but adequate. Some bathrooms had just showers, some had tubs too. Very quiet--although the place was booked, we never heard foot traffic or doors. The staff were most helpful with restaurant suggestions and directions. Beautiful building. The breakfast was more than expected, certainly enough to get us out the door, not just a bagel and coffee. (sweets, muffins, cereal, ham, sausage, hot turnovers) Beautiful outdoor garden sitting area was great for our happy hour free wine at 5. Would definitely stay again should we visit Pittsburgh. And most of all, the other guests were just as friendly, made it feel quite comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was more than accomodating and helpful. The hotel has a difficult location, but once we figured it out it was quite easy to get to our destnations.

I called once to inquire about rates and then again a couple weeks later to actually book a reservation. Both times the guy on the phone, same guy I believe, had attitude like a Bostonian. I was willing to let it slide the first time I called but not the second time. He had given me a misquote on the rate and showed little patience to deal with me or have a polite discussion when I told him he had told me a different price in a previous inquiry. He acted like he was in a rush and just wanted to get the transaction over with. Is that how a hotel representative should treat a potential customer? I lost my patience and told him his attitude was terrible and that I would not be booking a reservation with them, then hung up on him. I've never had such a horrible experience attempting to book a reservation. If this is how they treat a potential customer, I sure as hell wasn't going to stay there and deal with that in person. While this man's attitude may be acceptable if he worked at a hot dog stand in Philly, it is surely not acceptable at hotel,m which is suppose to "accommodate" customers.

I stayed at the Priory for two nights over Memorial Day weekend. After reading the reviews, i was looking forward to staying at a friendly, cozy, hotel. What I found was a distracted staff and terrible bedding.

The front desk seemed more interested in using their computer than making sure we had a good time. The breakfast staff were more interested in chatting that making sure guests had breakfast to eat. The first day, the orange juice carafe remained empty for at least 20 minutes --or longer, since we left and was still empty. The second day, we waited more than 30 minutes for eggs to be placed in the buffet table.

The bed was the worst bed i have ever slept in -- hard as wood and you could feel the inner springs. Pillows gave you neck aches.

The area in which the hotel is located is depressing, next to the highway and in a poor neighborhood.

In all, not a good value for the money we paid; next time I will stay somewhere else.

We recently stayed at the Priory House in Pittsburgh. It was so neat. I felt like we stepped back in time. As we walked through the hallways, we tried to imagine living there all those years ago. Our room was so big, and we were amazed at how quiet it was. We didn't hear a peep through the night. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with other guests who were all so nice, and enjoyed talking with the different staff who gave us a lot of history about the place. It was truly an experience that we have told family and friends about and we plan to return very soon!

We've stayed at the Priory several times in recent years, and it always is a pleasure to return. We like the north Pittsburgh neighborhood, but it is a bit difficult to find the hotel the first time; parking is free and ample when you get there. Access to sports venues, local museums (Wharhol; the Childrens Museum) and downtown is excellent. Rooms are interesting, the overall quality of the experience is well worth the visit and returning. From the afternoon wine to the more-than-adequate continental buffet breakfast in the former religious retreat, we were satisfied again. The Priory is now (2010) adding a new annex in the style of the original buildings which will be a welcome addition.

I liked my one night stay at the Priory. Staff very friendly and helpful- sent me to great restaurant and tavern Max's Allegheny Tavern-a short walk from the hotel. Prior comments that the location is in a rough neighborhood are unfounded. It is in a neighborhood that is on the upswing. There are no "projects" outside the door. Like any city there are corners that visitors should avoid but the Priory is actually in a quiet area. The hotel is clean, interesting, comfortable and a short drive or cab ride to downtown. I will stay there again when I visit Pittsburg.
