“One night, perfect location for a Penguins Game!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We were greeted at the door by a very friendly bellman who gave us directions to the parking, and promised to meet us there after we checked in. We were then checked in by a very friendly young lady who made us feel very welcome and special. She also made sure we had enough Doubletree cookies to get us through the night. Valet parking was very easy, and as promised the bellman was there with the cart and the same friendly smile.
Our room was huge, with a seating area, office area and large separate bedroom.
The Consol Energy Center was an easy walk.
Room service breakfast was wonderful, hot, fresh, and not terribly expensive. My son had a full breakfast with sunny side-up eggs, that were still "dippable" when they arrived....and I had the breakfast sandwich, which was delicious, and more food than I had expected for the price.
The pool is in a glassed in sunroom, and was clean and warm. There was no hot tub, but we really enjoyed the pool.
Checking out was just as easy as everything else. A nice young lady loaded up all of our bags, and while I was doing the final checkout, she loaded everything in the car and had it all ready for us just to drive away. At checkout, the same young lady was there who checked us in, and remembered my son had gone to the Pens game, and took time to talk to him about it.
All in all...a great stay, at a nice hotel, with great staff. Exactly what we needed to make the trip extra special.

Room Tip: We were on a high floor, so we did not hear the street noise. The hotel is on a busy corner right i...

While the amenities of this hotel are plentiful, and the location is great, the level of customer service we received did not come close to meeting the Doubletree Standard. While I understand a wait during busy times, such as the breakfast rush, I find it hard to believe that anyone would find waiting 20 minutes to receive juice/water and be greeted by a server AFTER being seated, as acceptable. The elevators went out of whack and stopped at each and every floor, regardless of if they were called there or not. Having never been to Pittsburgh, we asked the front desk staff some questions about the area, where we could buy some adult beverages and snacks and were treated like we were asking the craziest questions in the world. Pittsburgh was an awesome city, but the service just didn't live up to our expectations of the hotel (which were based upon experiences at other Doubletree Hotels) I think we will consider trying somewhere else when we go back,

Room Tip: Ask for a newly renovated room on a higher floor for good views

My husband and I were looking for a hotel that was close to Consol Energy Center. We thought that the Hilton Double-tree would be perfect for this visit to Pittsburgh Pa. It was a very nice hotel it has valet parking so you don't have to worry about your car. It cost us 22.00 to park our car there. They also put a hold of 50.00 on your debit visa for the just in case at the hotel. Valet was pretty fast on getting it once we checked out. There are several Pro's for this hotel, it's downtown, you don't have to worry about parking, there are several restaurant around you and a HUGE Macy's to go shopping. The front desk has several takeout menu's if you decide to stay in. One of the front desk employee's was very helpful on which place had great food. Also explained that the take out person didn't come to your room they will call you and you come down to the lobby to receive it.
Con's~ Everyone around us got free cookies, we didn't for some reason, Between Hotwire and Double tree our reservations got mixed up. Even after I called and confirmed our reservations. Our room was not cleaned, so they gave us a king room which was fine if it was just hubby and myself but we had our 3 kids with us. So we had to go back down to lobby and have them find us another room. They did fix the problem by giving us a 2 bedroom suite on the 12th floor. It was a very nice room. No safe, or mini-fridge. There also wasn't a peephole.( I know this sounds silly, but when your in a room by yourself with a little one and hear knocking at your door you get a little nervous not being able to see who it is.) You also heard doors slamming a lot on the floor we were on. The rooms are a little dated, I did read in a couple of places that they were remodeling so hopeful the higher rooms get redone too. The shower in the master bath was pretty much a shower with a curtain so water got on the floor a lot so you had to make sure you had a towel down so mop up some of the water.
They have a sizable work out room on the 3rd floor with a swimming pool right next to it. The swimming pool was a little dated, I was told it was heated but it was very cold when my little one and I went swimming.
They do have breakfast room service, they seemed a little expensive to me. 9.00 for 3 pancakes was a little much.
All in all we did have a very nice time. The staff was very informative about the area. They fixed our reservation without so much of a whine. Lucky for us we print everything and take it will us for the just in case emergency.

Was there for a one night stay for a Pens game. Beds were very comfortable, bathrooms looked new and the hotel in general was well maintained and clean.
Can't beat the location for any Consol Center event (one block away) and also close to PNC Park and Heinz Field.
The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Only downside was a problem with the elevators when I was checking out....but the front desk offered to send someone upstairs to the 18th floor to get my bags.....how's that for customer service! (the problem was fixed within 15 minutes).
Would most definitely stay there again.

My husband and I were in town for a steelers game and this hotel really was an ideal location for us. We took the subway to the game which was free, and was a very short walking distance from the hotel. Had a great shuttle driver that took us to local spots and you call and they will tell you the time they will come and pick you up. Very nice hotel with friendly staff. 711 right next to the hotel if you need something quick. We took the 28x bus to the airport since it was a lot cheaper than a cab, and the shuttle driver took us to the bus stop. Will stay here again when we come back!

My spouse and I stayed at the Doubletree Pittsburgh in mid-September 2012 for one night on the evening of a college football game. We have stayed in several other hotels in downtown Pittsburgh over the years, and this hotel is another viable option for us. This property was previously a Ramada but now features typical Hilton Doubletree amenities such as a warm chocolate chip cookie on arrival, and other perks for certain levels of Hilton Hhonors membership such as free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has a fitness center and indoor pool, although we did not see or use them.

Two parking options are available: valet for $22 per day (with an additional $11 charged if you want to check out late, for example, if you are attending an afternoon sporting event), or a public garage adjacent/beneath the hotel for $7 per night (price applies to weekend stays only). Because this was our first stay at the Doubletree, we used the valet option, but next time, we will save ourselves $15 and self-park. The valet worked fine, the attendants were friendly, and service was relatively quick. The parking garage entrance is on floor 2 of the hotel (although on the street/ground level), so you must take the elevator down to the lobby on the first floor to check in.

The first floor features a business center (with several computers and a printer; you can also print remotely from your room), floral shop, small gift shop, 7-11 convenience store, and the hotel restaurant called the Bigelow Grill. The Bigelow Grill offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with both indoor and seasonal outdoor seating, although the outdoor seating is adjacent to the smoking area and may be bothersome to some guests. As Diamond Hhonors members, we received coupons to the breakfast buffet; however, there are regular a la carte choices also available (although not for complimentary for Hhonors members). The buffet was acceptable, with hot and cold options and an omelet station. Room service is also available. The hotel has meeting and conference room space, and there was a wedding reception occurring on the night we stayed there.

The location of this hotel is good. It is located downtown near the Marriott Chatham Center, the Omni William Penn, and the Steel Plaza T-stop (subway stop), the later of which provides complimentary transportation every 20 to 40 minutes to several different downtown areas, including the North Shore (for access to the baseball and football stadiums, Carnegie Science Center, and Rivers Casino), and Station Square (for dining, shopping, and entertainment, although those amenities exist right in the downtown area itself). The T also runs to areas outside of downtown, although there is a charge, depending on the zone to which you travel. It is also possible to walk the 1.5 miles to the North Shore, or alternatively, you can take a water taxi to cross the river. The Strip District is an easy 10-minute walk. The hotel provides a shuttle bus to nearby downtown locations, although on game days, the van cannot take guests too close to the stadium. Super Shuttle is available to the Pittsburgh Airport, which is approximately 25 minutes away.

No club/executive floor exists in this hotel. We reserved a king room but were upgraded to a 1-bedroom king suite (the hotel also has 2- and 3-bedroom suites, some with additional bathrooms), with a king bed, separate TV, and easy chair in the bedroom, and a pull-out sofa bed, chair, TV, desk and chair, microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee maker in the large living room. The bathroom was a bit small, and fits only a pedestal sink. Outside the bathroom is a vanity counter area, which provided additional needed space; if the sink had been located in this area, it would make the room more functional, in our opinion. No safe is present in the room, nor are there robes and slippers; however, our room had an empty mini-refrigerator, which always makes us happy. In the state of Pennsylvania, it is generally not possible to purchase alcoholic beverages in a convenience store or grocery store (there are a few exceptions, although none of them exist in the downtown area), so we are surprised that more Pittsburgh hotels do not feature fully-stocked mini-bars. If you want to imbibe in your hotel room, your only options are to call room service or try to purchase a 6-pack from a nearby bar (the closest one we know of is the Crystal Restaurant). Overall, the room was a great size, and we always appreciate the extra space that a suite affords us. The room furnishings were not the newest or most chic, but they were well maintained.

We would stay here again the next time we visit downtown Pittsburgh.

On a hockey roadtrip and have booked exclusively at Hilton this year. Doubletree in Detroit knocked our socks off last night......amazing attention to detail and terrific personable and sincere service. In Pittsburgh (tonight is first of 2 nights) just not the same. Biggest surprise? No cookies! My 12 year old LOVED this treat in Detroit but not to be had here. Upon checking in were were advised that we were getting a newly renovated room on the 19th floor......sadly again, room layout and bathroom size pale in comparison to Detroit. Small things like the glasses in the room (great glasses in Detroit, perfect for my glass of wine) are replaced with simple well used water glasses here. Detroit? $140 a night...pittsburgh? Over $200 a night and both booked directly with hotel. At the end of the day it's "OK"......my expectations for doubletree might be just a bit high. If you can get a good deal take it, as for me, I'll be checking out tripadvisor for my next Pittsburgh trip.
