“Pre-Wedding Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

We stayed here before my wedding in August. It was nice. We had connected rooms and they were very convenient for our family. The rooms were clean, quiet and nice.

We did run into a problem. We arrived around 4:00 and had to wait at least an hour to check in. I believe check-in time is supposed to be 3:00... We waited for an hour, and then started pressing about check-in because we were going to have problems getting to the wedding rehearsal if we didn't get to check in. After a few more minutes we were able to go up to our room.

It is convenient having the bar/restaurant and Starbucks within the same building. The Starbucks is not open on Saturday at all. (They are not really affiliated with the hotel.) The bar/restaurant was enjoyable and a nice place for my family to have drinks between the ceremony and reception.

The wedding staff seemed very attentive. I have seen very positive reviews for weddings at this hotel, and would be inclined to believe them. It probably would have been a nice place to have our reception if we had not decided on another site earlier in the year.

The hotel stay was pretty expensive, and the group discount only helped so much... (There were other hotels in the area with a lower cost for groups.)

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for commenting on your time as our guest here at the Marriott Pittsburgh City Center. I appreciate the feedback you have given to us and our future guests. I wanted to take a moment to apologize for the delay at check in. This is not typical and I will be looking into the reasons for this inconvenience.
I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the bar/restaurant and the staff with the wedding. I did want to let you know that the Starbucks is a Marriott City Center facility and they are open on the weekends but do have limited hours. I apologize that these time restraints caused you to not be able to enjoy their services.
I hope that the next time you visit Pittsburgh we will have you as our guest again and this time we can show you a better experience. Have a great summer season and a wonderful day!

Thank You,
Amy-Jo Johnson

Well Pittsburgh is a nice town full of concrete topped off by the Pirates who play in a fantastic park right on the river.
The Marrriott hotel is a very very average hotel although have some nice staff who try the best with what they have.
Day 1 booked into the hotel on a promised view type room and was provided a low floormroom that looked into another building. Comment was that Pittsburgh doesn't have many views anyway sir!!!
Went to room - found hair in the freshly made bed - it now appears that after sheets are washed that the laundromat has installed a pubic hair dispenser that inserts pubic hair into the freshly laundered sheets.
Day 2 - bathroom not cleaned - on the blower again to get the people back to clean. Light not working over the desk and chip packet found down behind bed. Had to jamb hand towel into duct on air conditioner to stop it vibrating
Day 3 - toiletries not replaced and had to resort to dragging sheets off the bed onto the ground so that they were changed
Message to people for the Longwall Conference Do Not Stay Here The Westin or Omni is much better
Club floor access is a joke. No free beverages of an afternoon- you fill in a chit for it to be charged to your room. Food was lukewarm and non-appetising appearing to be left over slop from downstairs and certainly not appealing
A bright side to staying here is the cheerful concierge team who go out of their way to help at any time of the day

Room Tip: Do not stay here Ask for a room on the high side with an air conditioner that works and does not wa...

Hotel is average - room was clean and updated. Bathroom is small. Air conditioning was not great. Somewhat humid in hall and room. We had temperature down to 60 and it was not cold.staff was friendly, especially waitress in bar area. Parking is $24 per night with in/out privileges. I would stay again only if I get a competitive rate.

The hotel was simply wonderful. There for a wedding, spread out on all floors. No worries and no louder than a normal hotel. Some rooms are larger than others. Not a lot of choices at this hotel. The bar was incredibly friendly and efficient, even with the Pens game right across the street. They handled the after WIN party very well (and our after rehearsal dinner drink fest too). Fridge in the room was a huge plus and unexpected these days unless you're in an extended stay (and not even then).

Only three elevators kept us waiting a couple of times for an elevator or an empty one. Zero the hotel can do about this now, unfortunately. They really need two more elevators.

The front desk staff were really with it and handled every request with ease. They seemed to be staffed properly and there was never a wait to speak to someone. So gratifying based on one recent marriott stay.

It's a good location and easy to drive around town to see other parts of the city. The only negative is the valet situation. 2 out of 3 times we asked for the car, it was there. The last time (and checkout time to boot) it wasn't and even though they were given the receipt they just couldn't handle the volume. On the up side, they were incredibly friendly and we weren't really in a hurry so time wasn't an issue. They apologized and grabbed our car and we were on our way. Just call down and give them plenty of time if it's around check out time and there's alot of check outs and parked cars (ask the valet during your stay about the number of valeted cars and the desk if they're expecting a heavy check out). Both entities know their job very well and can answer these simple questions for you.

Room Tip: Better view looking over the city rather than at another building towards the university. Look away...

This hotel was extremely busy the entire weekend, but we still got very good service. The staff are very kind and friendly. Our room was very nice, great views too!!! Breakfast buffet at Steelhead was yummy. Easy walk to convention center, and other attractions in the city. Staff was helpful with directions.

Our family stayed three nights over memorial day weekend. Our every interaction with the staff was good. Hotel was very busy, but our service was prompt. Hotel decor is a bit bland, but it is more important to me that it was clean and well maintained. Our room was quiet. Bed was comfortable. TV worked well. Fridge was so quiet we didn't realize we had one until our last day. The downstairs restaurant was very good and they made 2-3 special accommodations for us which were much appreciated. You might not realize the restaurant is there because you have to walk through the bar/lounge to find it. Valet parking was prompt. Except for the Consol Energy Center (which is across the street), there is not much to do within the immediate area. If you are willing to walk for 10-12 minutes, there is more to do. Note that Pittsburgh rolls up the streets rather early anyway. The concierge recommended a great Italian Food/Pizza restaurant/bar about 1.5 blocks past the Consol Center. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is delicious!

Room Tip: Our rooms at the far end of the hall were very quiet. Try to get a room higher up and with a view o...

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and was pretty happy with my stay. The 19th floor king room was good sized, clean, and quiet. The windows opened just a smidgen for fresh air. Service was friendly and efficient. The fresh fruit available at the front desk was a nice touch. Bottled water and fruit was also available in the fitness room upstairs. The pool was clean and well stocked with towels. One of the most disappointing aspects of this downtown hotel was the lack of a concierge desk. I would have liked to have had more input on some of the nearby attractions and transportation options. This hotel is near the free fare zone "T" station which made it a great option for getting around city center - I did not have a car. I would not recommend this property as a good choice for families with small children as it is a bit off the beaten path (unless you are only heading to the next door CONSOL Energy Center).

Room Tip: I absolutely loved my view of the Gulf Tower with it's top 6 floors colorfully lit (at night) to...
