This was our first trip to Thai L'Elephant in its new location in Phoenixville. We really enjoyed their food at their old location, and now they have really stepped it up a notch! First of all, when we walked in I immediately said, "this is beautiful." The decor really is lovely. We were greeted promptly (on a Saturday night) and seated immediately. Within seconds a waitress came to take our drink order (this is a BYOB). My husband's thai iced tea was delicious. I ordered the Tom Zaap soup and the Peppercorn Catfish. The soup was my favorite dish of the evening...a rich chicken stock flavored with fish sauce, thai basil and kaffir lime with bright pieces of tomato, chicken, cilantro and red onion throughout. It was, indeed, as the menu indicated very spicy. Towards the end, my eyes were watering...but I couldn't stop eating it was so good!!! The Peppercorn Catfish was incredible. Perfectly fried fish in a scrumptious red curry sauce with fried slices of shallot, fried basil leaves and a mound of jasmine rice.
My husband ordered the Por Pia and the Kang Pla curry with shrimp. The Por Pia was crispy and served with a sweet and sour chili sauce...a delight! The Kang Pla was hot, sweet, sour, and salty with a generous portion of shrimp, as well as pineapple, lemongrass and chilies. Delicious!
For desert we ordered coconut ice cream and a chocolate dome cake...each served on a plate decorated with a swirl of mango puree and chocolate sauce. Beautiful and a great way to end a meal.
Throughout, the service was friendly and attentive. Overall, this is one of the best meals we've had in a while and certainly one of the best thai meals I've ever had. The price for all of the above plus tip was $78. Not cheap, but I honestly feel it was worth every penny. Go...you won't regret it!
