“Good, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2007

The room was clean, but small. The heated pool was clean, well maintained, and a good temperature. The breakfast was fairly good with muffins, bagels, and both hot and cold cereal.

The staff was not the greatest. The first person we encountered completely ignored us. As a Choice Priveleges member, I requested a late checkout from the second person. You would have thought I was asking for something major. She didn't now how to do it, when the male awakened from his computer trance to grumble "it depends on availability". We were staying Saturday night outside of Lancaster, PA in November. Let me guess the availability. Anyway, we thought we had it straightened out only to find ourselves locked out of our room because we were there after normal checkout. We received a replacement easy enough, but what a mess.

Stayed there last year and all was well. NOT THIS TIME! The room smelled like a locker room. The stench was overwhelming. The bathroom door was broken and not able to be closed. When I spoke with the staff on duty, he said there was nothing he could do. There was unacceptible, especially with traveling with a teenager. The next morning, the manager moved us to a smaller room with 2 double beds, which was not going to work for our vacation. The next day, we checked into the Ronk's Sleep Inn and Suites that is closer to Lancaster and is a new hotel with cheaper rates.

We have been staying with the Choice Hotels properties for the past 5 or 6 years, and a Sleep Inn was actually the first property we ever stayed in with Choice Hotels.
That facility was outstanding, so I always kept Sleep Inns in the back of my mind, but they are scarce compared to Comfort and Quality Inns.
We spent a few days in the Lancaster area, and since I saw that a Sleep Inn was available, I booked it. I realized it was West of town, but booked it anyway.
The hotel is quite a bit West of town, so it is up to you how you feel about the drive. It is adjacent to the Mountville exit of Route 30 West, but even though it is just off the highway, it was quiet.
This appears to be a reasonably new facility, which was a positive, it was clean and fresh.
The room we had faced the back, which was a lawn, so it was nice and quiet. We did not hear the neighbors on either side of us, so that was good. Don't know if they were quiet, or the insulation was desinged to keep the noise out.
However, they did not engineer the plumbing noise as a factor.
Every time the person upstairs flushed the toilet, you could hear it very loudly in our room.
If you are a light sleeper, and your neighbor upstairs likes to flush the toilet in the middle of the night, you will have a problem.
This was a disappointment to me, as I really did like the hotel otherwise.
The breakfast room was nice and clean and the attendant, who may have been in her 80s, was a hard worker who kept the place well stocked and clean.
There were 9 tables but it was a little crowded as the room was on the small side.
It was the typical Choice Hotels breakfast, 2 cereals, muffins, bagels, juices , fruit.
You did get the feeling it was fresh and clean which is a positive.

The bathroom had a stall shower, not a tub, but the stall was actually a nice size. The toilet was in the same room with the stall shower, and a sliding door separated the shower and toilet from the rest of the room. The sink was next to the sliding door.
So, if one person was trying to sleep, and the other person was using a hairdryer, they would be in the same room, no separate bathroom with a closed door to cut down on the noise.
The location was well West of town so it is up to you if you want to deal with the extra time that it would take to get to downtown. It can be used as a positive if you are going to Gettysburg or Hershey, as you are already West of town, so your trip will actually be shorter in that regard.
Conclusion:
The hotel is well West of downtown Lancaster. You have to decide if this is an important factor or not as increased travel time is involved.
The facility itself is fairly new and fresh so that is in its favor.
The breakfast room was fine and there is an indoor pool if you need to swim. There appeared to be plenty of parking.
If your room faces the back, you will be facing a lawn, so it is nice and quiet.
PLUMBING of all things was a factor. You will hear the toilet flush above you. You have to decide if this will bother you or not.
If you have a neighbor who uses the toilet in the middle of the night, you might get woken up by the noise.
I have stayed in better places and places that are not nearly as nice. I found this facility clearly acceptable, but it was not without some issues.

This Sleep Inn is one of the older standard designs with the round shower in the corner of the room. The beds were good and the breakfast was up to par. Since there was a model train show as well as a car show going on in neighboring towns (both are really big events) it was full, but they handled it fine. I would stay there again.

Very nice hotel! My husband and I were impressed with the cleanliness of our room and friendliness of the staff. We were traveling with a 2 year old and 6 week old and felt very comfortable in our spaceous room. The pool is small but very nice.

My mom and dad had a renewal of vows ceremony and second honeymoon last year. They originally were staying at another "inn" like hotel which they did not like at all. We were able to book the rest of their stay at the Sleep Inn and they loved it. They said that the rooms were beautiful. You can't go wrong here!
