Mt. Gretna is a a great secrete place i hesitate to reveal, like a secrete swiming hole, you dream of returning the next day. It's like that here. Yes there is an admission, but where else can you spend an entire day, sitting on a beach while your kids run off to play. If you dont like the sun, there is a large shady, grassy area that affords a beautiful view of the lake. I could sit for hours and watch the teenagers platform jump or the flips they do while swinging over the lake is so fun to watch. Every once in awhile, the beach and shade grove erupts in spontaneous applause over some amazing feat preformed. There are grills and picnic tables and I strongly recommend you pack your own food, as the snack bar is very limited. There is a pizza place a mile down the road.
The staff while very young, are very focused. There are at least 5 to 6 lifeguards on duty and several othere patrol the grounds watching the waters. I have been going for 3 yeats and never had an incident or seen any trouble.
The water is very deep where the attractions are so good swimming is a must. The gentle sandy beach slope into the water keeps the little ones busy while the teenages race to get out in the warm and deep water. This lake is VERY clean, they drain it every September so dont expect fish or ducks/geese. It is spring fed so there are cold spots. You can rent chairs, tubs and canoes as well.
I love this place, it reminds me of Mayberry times....
