“Helpfull waiter, but did expect a little more from the food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2015

Being recommended this place from the hotel, I'd expected a little more. There was nothing wrong with the food technically, but the waiter gave us a table in a room that was completely empty when we came, so it felt a bit

“Poor, poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2015

Years ago, we loved the Wooden Nickel. We felt like we were really getting the royal treatment when dining there. About 10 years ago, we had some really poor service and the food went downhill, so we stopped going there. A few weeks ago, we decided to give it another try after so many years. You can tell that there are "regulars" there - and they do get the preferential treatment. Service was slower than slow. I'm not exaggerating when I say it took us 20 minutes to get our salads. We were ready to walk out when we finally got them, and then my salad was wrong. It was not extremely busy in there, and there was no explanation from the server as to why everything was taking so long. Our entrees were very good - my scallops were perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, we won't be going back to this location for another 10 years. That being said, we do enjoy their newer location in N. Huntingdon. Bottom line: If you like good food and have a lot of time to waste, then this is the place for you.

“One and done ! No happy hour stop for us!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2015 via mobile

First time here since changed ownership. Except for Kaitlin our server the service was the worst we had ever experienced. Never will go back. I usually don't write negative reviews but I am in hope wooden nickel will talk to their bartender about acknowledging or at least being attentive. Never asked if we wanted a drink. Hence we searched out Kaitlin. He was the regular bartender who took care of regulars but never even had eye contact with us. Now if we were of another culture we could claim a prejudiced behavior. In this case it would be reverse. Also we must not have been charged happy hour menu discounts because it was higher than it should have been. Didn't Dispute as wanted to go. Burger was good. Fries hot. Kaitlin a sweetheart. Sorry but will never return This establishment has hosted communion and other family private parties for us over the years so it was I thought going to be amazing. We had fun as we always do but it needs to be shared or improved.

“Adequate, but not something I'm excited to go back for...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2015

We went here for dinner last Saturday for an evening out with friends.

Our meals were acceptable but based on what we received and the price, we probably would have been happier at a lot of other places in the area. The salads weren't anything special but they were adequate, the soups could have been hotter but they were tasty nonetheless.

The entrees arrived and the Chicken Parmesan was served with a large curly pasta which was a bit under-cooked and the sauce was a bit on the sweet side for my liking. Another member of our party had the Pasta Corleone which had the same under-cooked pasta and the sweet sauce. Our other two friends had steak and salmon, which seemed to be fine. Our server was charming and helpful. The appetizers were good.

Overall, it was a solid B/C performance based on the price we paid. They are much higher in price point that a lot of other restaurants in the area serving the same food. The ambiance was nice, the service was good, but legitimately if you're going to charge those prices the food should be exceptional, and this didn't rise to that level based on my experiences elsewhere.

“Avoid ths restaurant.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2015 via mobile

Menu is priced as as a mid to expensive restaurant with many choices but service and food is less than adequate. We have too many choices in Pittsburgh area to bother with this restSurant.
