“Wonderful, relaxing family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2010

We stayed in the cabin on the lake with my parents and our two daughters, ages 9 and 5, and found it to be cozy and comfortable. The kitchen was even stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals there (except food, of course). Robin and William were extremely accommodating to our every request, and their home-cooked breakfasts were delicious! The town of Milford, just down the road, is quaint with plenty of shopping. Hiking the waterfalls at nearby Child's Park was another highlight. In addition, we were very pleased with the quality of the Black Walnut Stable's horses. The stable hands were able to match a suitable mount for each of us, from an experienced rider down to a 9-year-old's first trail ride. We would definitely recommend The Black Walnut Inn and can't wait to return for a romantic anniversary getaway!

The Black Walnut was a great choice as a poconos getaway. Easily accessible by highway, yet a little off the beaten path. The rooms are quite cozy, ours had a private bath. This is a mix of modern with a throwback to another era. Walking around the lake at night, listening to the chorus of bullfrogs and peepers, going horseback riding early in the clean mountain air, where all you hear around you is the sounds of the forest. Then the open mic night, with a featured band was terrific, as many talented local musicians seem to attend. The entire experience was wonderful.

I kept hearing that in preparation of a wedding something will go wrong. The family and staff at the Black Walnut Inn saw to it that those concerns were unwarranted.

They are pros but unobtrusive, they thought of the things that we didn't and I can think of no way the event would have been better or any place that we would have preferred over the Inn.

The scenery is beautiful., the food was superb.. highest recommendations all around.

What an amazing experience! Robin, William and Sonia made us feel right at home. Even prior to our stay, William was very helpful-- patiently answering all of our many questions, and helping us decide that this was the perfect spot for a family weekend getaway.
We chose to stay in the cabin, which was immaculate, cozy and perfectly situated just a few steps away from the lake. We enjoyed much needed family time in and about the cabin. We were encouraged to make full use of the property (the Inn livingroom, hot tub, boating, fishing, hiking, etc.) with very few rules. The Inn itself is beautiful, too. Sparkling hardwood floors and staircases, an Italian marble fireplace, antiques and comfortable touches throughout. Robin welcomed us to look at the many bedrooms on the second and third floors. Each one was unique and well appointed. And breakfast (included) was perfect-- We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in the dining room with breathtaking views of the lake. Our son enjoyed making his own waffle in the unique waffle maker. Robin's signature home fries were delicious!
The Black Walnut Inn is also a short drive from Stokes State Forest. We easily made the trip to Stokes to enjoy hiking and sight seeing, and enjoyed returning back to our cabin in the woods for our own evening barbeque, family games and a movie borrowed from The Black Walnut Inn movie library. Definitely worth the trip!

Our family tradition is to take a vacation at Christmas. This year we picked the Black Walnut Inn in the Poconos and were very pleased with the choice. The "family" for this trip included Mom & Dad and 4 kids (ages 21-28), one son-in-law, a boyfriend and 2 dogs. We all stayed in the cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the family-time, including lots of board games (some we brought, others were available at the Inn). The hospitality provided by Robin, the Innkeeper, was superb. She looked after each and every detail and made us feel completely at home.

The Black Walnut is a great place to go for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The vintage style setup is very welcoming and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful in the summer and the fireplace is cozy in the winter. The owners are warm, accomodating and caring. Constantly making sure everyone is OK. Robin is amazing and I really look forward to staying there in the future!

I was eagerly anticipating New Year’s weekend so I can finally escaped the stressors of school and work.
I decided to plan a couple weekend trip and we were looking for accommodations in close proximity to a ski resort. After running a search on all ski resorts the result was a price way above our budgets. We then decided to stay somewhere within reasonable driving distance. We were debating the style of accommodations we were interested in. Were we looking for the contemporary modern accommodations offered by a wide variety of hotel chains e.g. Hilton, Sheraton, or perhaps we should consider something different. Remember we are from New York City, where it’s difficult to find anything other than modern. Modernity comes a dime a dozen where we are from thus we were interested in something older yet eloquent and aesthetic. We envisioned a place which was small in size infused with a homey atmosphere, a fire place, warm and caring staff. Our imaginations came to fruition when we stumbled across TheBlackWalnut Inn. The black walnut inn of Milford PA fulfilled our desires and some. The black walnut is an amalgam of historic and modern, it is a truly a home away from home. At first we were very hesitant because of the smaller rooms, and not every room having their own individual showers. But as soon as we stepped foot into the inn we felt at home, a feeling of familiarity over came us. We were so taken back by the kind and warm open arm welcoming by our hostess we no longer had any concerns. The rooms we slept in were just right, comfortable, cozy, non-modern, yet eloquent, aesthetic, and different. Something we always wanted yet never found, and we are forever greatful to the blackwalnut inn. The blackwalnut Inn in Milford Pa is a truly a home away from. The grounds are truly immaculate, a beautiful lake in which the living room over looks. I cannot tell you how much I eagerly wait for the next opportunity I have to go away and let me assure you the black walnut inn is my first and second choices. During the spring time, they offer horseback riding, paddle boating, Bar B Qs and this is all included in your room price. I almost forgot the breakfast is something I cannot describe you must come and experience for yourselves. If I was to rate the black walnut I would give it Five Stars. Because in my world I judge a vacation by the quality of the experience and let me tell you the quality experience at the Blackwalnut is definitely worth experiencing. We had an amazing weekend and Sunday morning after checkout we drive to Shawnee mountain Pa for skiing which was only an half hour away.
