“American history at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2011

Grey Towers, the summer home of Gifford Pinchot, who was the founder of American forestry and the first chief of the US Forest Service. He was also elected twice as the Governor of the state Pennsylvania.

So here lies two stories. One that tells the stories of the man who coined the phrase " the greatest good, for the greatest amount of people, for the greatest amount of time" when it came to how we should manage our nations natural resources. And secondly, the wealthy Governor of Pennsylvania who used his money and power to bring about progressive change in our 1900 American society.

You should take the time to learn about this man, his life and his family. And the county side is beautiful also. I really liked seeing the paintings and photos of what the area looked like back in Pinchot's time and comparing it to what we see today. Make sure you ask about the "Finger Bowl". Now that is a way to have dinner with friends!

“Beautiful views and interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2010

The tour is around 1 hour and is very interesting. The interior tour is only 3 downstairs rooms, the large foyer, library and the dining room. The exterior is beautiful though. You do not need to do the tour to visit the grounds but the admission is $6 each and its more than reasonable to learn a little bit of history.

“It's a US Dept of Agriculture" National Monument"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2010

I've visited since the 1950s. Don't miss walking the short trail "to the falls"..a lovely and impressive waterfall as good as anything in the famous Bushkill Falls.
