Fretta's opened in Milford a short time after we moved up here in 1989, and it's been a favorite of ours for a long time now. It is, technically, a restaurant? Well... no... Unless you consider outdoor seasonal seating a qualifier for designation as a restaurant. Is it great? No -- it's 'fantastic!"
Fretta's offers some of the best deli, butcher meats, and prepared Italian dishes to be found in the area. You'll also find fresh mozzarrella, and other house-made delicacies, all in a shop that is more like visiting your Italian Aunt than going to a fast-paced deli ('C'mon, you're too skinny, taste...').
Service is always wonderful (but be sure to take a number if its crowded), deli and meat selections are fresh and first rate (but a bit pricey for the area -- you get what you pay for, and this is all high quality), sandwiches are among the best you will find in the county, prepared foods are incredible (including their tortellini soup, along with their Murray's chicken dishes, and veal...), and the frozen pasta selection and breads are also out of this world.
Bring a good appetite, get ready for the aromas and the taste sensations, be ready to be treated like a 'regular' even if you're not, but be ready to pay for good quality too. No seating, except the outdoor tables in the summer, but soooooo worth it year-round.
