We found this to be a nice motel in a fantastic location at the top of the Carlisle Pike - pretty much anything you need is a short drive away. We were in the area for a Record Collectors event in Lancaster, and chose Harrisburg because it's a reasonable drive and the rates were much better.
I was a little concerned when we checked in - the place was absolutely packed. I was informed by the front desk that they had 3 weddings and there was a big car show in Carlisle. But check-in was efficient and extremely friendly. Make no bones about it - this is a motel, and a large one at that. I'm confident it started life as a Ramada, and I know it was once a Holiday Inn. There are a number of buildings, and the grounds are large and impressive. There are 2 pools, a picnic grove, athletic fields, miniature golf course, and other nice features. The main building is check-in, bar and restaurant, ballrooms, meeting rooms and a few hotel rooms. Most of the rooms are out back.
We used the indoor pool (which was very nice) - there was a wedding going on next to the outdoor pool, and we didn't want to disturb them. We really didn't notice anyone from the weddings going on at all except for the occasional person who walked by. The car people were generally well-behaved until about midnight, when they got rowdy. One (and only one) call to the front desk got it taken care of quickly.
Any constructive criticism was more nit-picky stuff, and I'm assuming was neglected because of the extreme level of busy over the weekend, such as cigarette butts and bottle caps left on our window sill, beer cans about, things left behind in the pool area (I'll never understand why people can't clean up after themselves), etc. My only other complaint was the miniature golf area. We wanted to play a round, but the sign said there was a $5 charge. To me, that should be free for guests, and perhaps it was and the fee was for non-guests, but recent storms had the course in a bit of disarray, and we opted not to.
I would be more than happy to return at any time. We were treated extremely well and while busy, the staff did the best they could. If you're fussy about the possibility of a group (like the car people) milling about, I would check the schedule at the Carlisle Fairgrounds before going, as they have a lot of "fests" in the summer especially. However, be aware that it would likely be an issue just about anywhere in the area due to the spill over.
Our room was clean, and mostly modern (I don't complain about tube type tv's). The beds were a bit uncomfortable, but I'd rather have a hard bed than a soft broken-down bed. We appreciated the microwave and fridge.
I've already recommended this motel to several people I know who attend regular events at the farm show. They have families and are always looking for a good place to stay.
If noisy guests pop up, security is attentive and fast. Avoid indoor rooms in front building due to...
