We stopped at this Isaacs for lunch during a trip up the I-81 corridor in November. We were familiar with the Isaacs chain because of several previous visits to their stores in the Lancaster, PA area and from one previous visit to this particular property.
It's a mile or so from I-81 to the small shopping area where this store is located, but it's an easy drive on a controlled-access highway.
One of the things we like about Isaacs is their creative menu. Unfortunately, the menu handed to us during this visit was so sticky from previous users that we literally tore the printing off one page when we opened it!
Our server, Christopher, was enthusiastic and eager-to-please, but just a bit over-the-top in his recommendation of menu items and descriptions of the soups and salads. He almost wore us out just listening to him.
But the beef stew he so highly recommended was definitely flavorful and contained good-sized, recognizable chunks of beef. Both our sandwiches were on top-quality breads and were well-prepared and well-presented. Their seasonal pumpkin-cranberry stack dessert was rich and flavorful -- and, because we remembered it from last year, was one of the reasons we stopped here today. Our second dessert, a brownie, was served just warm enough that some of the chocolate bits it contained had started to melt -- truly decadent!
Unfortunately, the timing of our meal was just a bit off, seemingly because of the amount of time Christopher spent describing menu items to guests at other tables who arrived after we did. Whatever the reason, we had longer-than-would-be-expected waits for beverage refills, for a check-back to see if we wanted desserts after finishing our sandwiches, and for our check to arrive once our desserts were finished. In our particular case, the delays were mostly frustrating and inconvenient; but had we been on a working-person's schedule with appointments or commitments to meet, they could have become a major issue. In any event, they were definitely out of keeping with our previous Isaac's experiences.
The food was unquestionably excellent, but between the sticky menus and timing issues, the overall experience was only "good" at best.
