“Good and bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

The good: a typical (and quite new) Hampton inn, clean, friendly, nice (hot) breakfast. Beds were quite comfy.

The bad: they drape the trash can liners over the edge of the trash can, as if they expect guests to put them in the cans. Very odd. As one of my friends said, "I'm not here to play maid!"

Also, they had no internet service for four days!! This is probably a transitory issue, so maybe should not affect your decision to stay, but I'll bet there were a lot of angry business travelers. One of my friends asked for a discount due to this, but was refused (because the internet is free at the hotel). This is the reason for the 1 Star on the service rating.

My husband and brother had to visit my husband's parent for a family emergency. The hotel is close by the highway and my in-law's home. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were all friendly. We were only there one night but now we have a place to stay if we are down near our family again overnight. Only suggestion would be for them to get better signage for their entrance, there is a strip mall and a Best Western and it is is little confusing to get from the highway to the hotel parking lot in the dark.

I stayed here last weekend as part of a wedding. We arrived late and they checked us in VERY fast so we could race upstairs and get ready. Front desk was really friendly and helpful. Room was great--beds were incredibly comfortable, bathroom was spotless and new, room was very clean. I believe we paid just over $100, and this felt like a great bargain for the price. The breakfast in the morning was a wonderful surprise--full continental breakfast (eggs, waffles, sausage, etc--not just bagels and donuts) and again the staff was great at check out. Wish all hotels were like this!

We were very pleased with our one night stay here. The room was large, the breakfast was complete, the service was friendly, and the cost was reasonable. We booked the room in advance for the discount (prepaid) and were gladly received. We had very fast WiFi even though our room was at the end of the hall, and check out time of noon was great. The range of cable tv channels was limited (a lot of informercials, it seemed) and little beyond the basic networks, History Channel, MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, ESPN, and some Spanish language and local access stations. However, we did not stay there to watch television. The bed was very comfortable. We normally stay at the Micro--- off 17K in New York but they were booked. They are a few dollars cheaper but the breakfast is not as nice. Hampton Inn had make them yourself waffles, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and some sliced wurst which was not terrific but not bad, either. Would have preferred traditional sausages or bacon. Good coffee and cookies served on check in the night before. The bathroom was large and the water got hot. However, the shower head was set a bit high and was not adjustable by direction, although it changed from pulsating to steady stream of water adequately. All in all, if the price is right again, we will stay here again. One tip--this hotel does not have its own entance off the main road. Turn at either stop light and follow a windy path in the direction of the Hampton Inn, sharing either the Best Western parking lot drive or the drive which starts at the nearby shopping center. I can see how someone could get confused in the dark (though not lost, only disoriented) since there are not small signs directing you.

One of the nicest motels we have stayed at for a long time. The property is spotless and the staff was first class. Only problem is accessibility. You must got through the posted parking lot of the neighboring Best Western to gain access. Front desk personnel tell us they are working on the problem but didn't seem to be overly concerned.

Nevertheless we would go out of our way to stay there again when anywhere near the area.

Do not stay in this hotel. They employ thieves. I had jewelry stolen out of my room. The manager basically told me too bad, I can't help you. I called the police and they are investigating. Stay far away from this hotel.

I believe my response was that I looked and investigated to see if anyone had found the small cardboard box that you left in your room after having checked out. I find it very slanderous and take offense for you to call my employees theives. We have been open for two years now and never experienced this sort of problem because anything found by the housekeeping department has always been turned in at the end of their shifts (jewelry included). The police department came and investigated and the only discrepancy they found was that you told me the jewelry was worth $500 yet you told them it was worth $1000.

In addition, this hotel does not tolerate any theft of any kind by any employee. Precisely because we do not want any negative publicity associated with that sort of problem. As you can see by majority of the reviews listed, our property is an excellent place to stay.

Once again, I am sorry for your loss, but there is nothing else I can do.

We have stayed at the Matamoras Hampton Inn numerous times and have altered our travel plans so we could stay here. We normally stay at Hampton Inns, which are usually quite nice, but this one is hands-down the nicest of the ones we visited. There are a variety of little things that make this place exceptional. Hampton Inns are typically very well maintained and clean and Matamoras is no exception, so it isn't the room quality (which is excellent) that is that stands out. I think the reason it stands out is the staff and the lobby/breakfast facility.

The staff has been simply wonderful. We have consistently had problems with Hampton Inns and the Hilton Honors program at all Hampton Inns. Unless you have your Hilton Awards number memorized, they never seem to be able to find us in the computer. The software Hilton has developed for the reservation/awards program must be horrible because I can see the pain in the faces of every Hampton Inn front desk staff. We had the typical problem at Matamoras and ended up with the wrong name on our bill. The staff went to heroic steps to fix it and even found us in the parking lot as we were leaving to give us a corrected statement. I was very impressed.

The breakfast/lobby area is really quite impressive. Many hotel complementary breakfast areas can be like getting food off a UN relief truck in the middle of a natural disaster. This place is sprawling and comfortable. It is so nice to not have to worry about having a place to sit. The food was good and the dining area clean and pleasant.

The only drawback of this hotel is that it is too new for the GPS to find and it is rather confusing getting into the parking area from the main road. The Best Western next door is in our GPS so we use that. As for getting into the parking area from the main road you have the choice of winding your way through the Best Western Parking lot or off-roading it up a gravel driveway by the car wash. It's awkward, but worth it.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front of the building face some pretty mountains along the highway. Rooms in the back...
