When we arrived at the hotel and checked in, the lobby was very nice like all of the Hampton's we have ever stayed in. We are very loyal to Hampton because we have always enjoyed the staff and facilities. This stay was not the same! First, this hotel is a little off the beaten path. We arrived late and very hungry! There were no snacks available for purchase or charge to room, with the exception of the vending machine in the hallway that smelled of body odor, so eat before you come. When we opened the door to our room, my husband and I both looked at each other with the same surprised look because it was very dated. The only hint of the modern touches that make Hampton stand out was a very small granite bathroom counter. The layout of the room was very strange, with the whirlpool tub just a few feet from the couch. There was a stand up shower in the bathroom, instead of a standard tub (I realize we had a jacuzzi tub, but usually there is a separate bathtub) which made it interesting to bath our 2 year old. The walls were yellowed and the carpet, in its dark green color, was ripped and bubbled. The furniture was filthy! I was afraid to sit down or put any of our belongings on the floor. The desk in our room was practically falling apart. The bathroom was its own beast. Hair that did not belong to me or my family on the floor, in the sink and shower. The shower floor was disgusting. It was a textured surface that really needed a good bleach scrub! Mold from the caulking on the shower doors flaked off into the shower while I was in it. When I got out of the shower, the steam had fogged the mirror and you could plainly see where it had only been wiped a third of the way up! The faucet was also in need of a wipe down, I was afraid to brush my teeth! My son was all over the place in this room, which absolutely killed me because of its condition. Breakfast was OK. Selection was limited to prepackaged products, but we were so hungry at that point we didn't care. The final nail in the coffin for canceling our second night stay was when I looked at the open bedroom door and saw all of the greasy, grimy finger and handprints all over it! I was absolutely shocked at the appearance of the room! It was unlike any other Hampton stay we've had. When I approached the front desk to inquire about canceling our second night, I told the girl at the front desk that our room was not as we expected and that we wanted to cancel our second night and go to a different hotel. She was extremely nice, but did not ask why our room was not meeting our expectations. I usually don't complain about things like this, but it was really an awful experience. We packed our things in less than 5 minutes and flew out the door to a different hotel. The best part was watching the exterminator packing up in the truck next to us! I feel that we did not get an accurate or adequate room description. I don't feel that we were overcharged for the stay, other than the fact that I've paid much less to stay in nicer "motels." Not sure why my experience was so different than other travelers, but I don't recommend staying in this hotel if you want a clean, modern stay.
