“Great Hotel; Great Food; Great Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2005

I stayed at the Desmond for 2 nights on June 17 & 18, 2005. I booked this as part of a package deal offerred by QVC. I highly recommend purchasing the package through QVC. You don't have to be a member and you don't have to do the QVC tour. The package comes with 2 nights, and breakfast for 2 both days, plus 2 tickets to the QVC tour ($14 value). The hotel is beautiful, clean, and the staff couldn't be nicer. It has free high speed internet in the rooms and throughout the hotel. It has a nice pool, jacuzzis, work out room, and a pretty walking trail. The hotel is a convention hotel located on a tree lined street in a corporate business park. When I arrived on Friday (a business day) it was very quiet. You would not know you were in the middle of a business area. The hotel is convenient to all the major roads. I recommend the Sunset Grill in the summer for dinner and drinks. Excellent live must Wed, Thurs and Fri evenings. The Fox & Hunt restaurant is excellent for dinner or late night snacks/drinks. Breakfast buffet and Sunday brunch can't be beat. They also have a golf course or have an arrangement with one (I don't play, but i saw signs about it and many people roaming around with clubs wearing golfwear). I also highly recommend visiting the People's Light and Theater Company. They put on excellent, first rate productions and their restaurant, Places!, has a wonderful menu that changes seasonally. They have a full menu before the show and appetizers and desserts only after the show. I highly recommend both. I also recommend an afternoon trip to Doylestown. It is a lovely town with a variety of shops and cafes. Lunch at Alessi's is a must, it was the busiest a nd you will know why when you eat there. They also have a very large Starbucks, in case you need a fix. The James Michener museum is a must and his house is also around here somewhere and I have been told you must visit there, too. This is a great place for a relaxing long weekend.

My husband, teenaged son and I stayed at the Desmond one night while we were looking at a prep school. I am really picky about hotels as we have had a few bad experiences. The Desmond staff was very nice, there were a lot of business travelers, but check in still only took about 5 minutes even w/ a line. The fitness room and indoor pool were very nice, and they had a wide variety of in room movies. My only issues were that the mini bar fridge was not working and there was some dust/cobweb type of things near the air conditioner filter. The room was clean, but I wouldn't say spotless. We ate in the pub and the food was very good with huge servings. They also had a very nice gift shop and complementary morning coffee in the lobby (which was quite good). A little more attention to detail in housekeeping and this would easily get an excellent rating, but still overall a very good experience.

This is indeed a very nice hotel located in a quiet location. The food in the restaurants is excellent and room service is also good but quite expensive.
Across the street is a strip mall with several eating options. Rooms are cleaned early and quickly by friendly staff which is fantastic if you are attending a conference at the hotel and want to go back to your room during breaks. My room, 428, did not have the canopy or four post bed which has been described by others. It was also missing the iron despite several requests during my four day stay for a replacement. Other than this a great hotel.

My husband and I spent overnight at The Desmond this past weekend.
The stay was so relaxing from start to finish. The front desk staff were very accomodating allowing us to choose exactly where our room was (away from elevators on the fourth floor). The room was very clean and the canopy bed was very nice. We enjoyed the jacuzzi in the pool area however the pool could have been a bit warmer as well as the air temperature. We also used the fitness center which was nicely accomodated for doing some cardio and a few weights. The crab cakes at the Hunt Room were truly "lump" and delicious. The atmosphere of the Hunt Room was very relaxing. We also enjoyed the Sunday brunch with cooked to order omelets. Make sure you try their bread pudding with vanilla sauce. They are known for this and it was delicious!! I recommend the Desmond for your next trip to suburban Philadelphia.

My husband and myself spent labor day weekend at the Desmond. What a treat. It is a beautiful hotel situated in a quiet part of town with beautiful landscaping. The staff is outstanding and do everything to accomodate you. The food is magnificent, especially the brunch. The rooms are very nice with four poster canopy beds, the hunt room is decorated with fine linen and leather chairs. Everything about our stay was extremely pleasant and will be remembered fondly.

We're locals, and we always recommend the Desmond to out of town visitors. It's not a chain property. The people there are great - very friendly. They have a great deck (open in the summer) where they have live music and casual dining. The $20 lobster pot dinner is the best deal around. Weddings there have been very nicely done, with good food (!) and unique touches. If you're not worried about collecting hotel frequent stay points, this is definitely the place to stay in Malvern!
