In planning a trip to the Lancaster, PA, area, I had read that Lititz was as charming as Strasburg. In my opinion, it is more so. Alden House is on Main Street and is owned by a pleasant couple who saw to our needs. We were traveling with our two daughters (11 and 14), and they were happy to accommodate them (some B&Bs were not) with a small extra charge. Still the price for our spacious room with an upstairs loft for the girls was reasonable and a lot less than some I priced. The beds were comfortable. The only drawbacks were no closets (if you like to hang up clothes) although they had hooks, and the street noise at night (it is amazingly busy!).
The breakfasts featured three courses--more food than you can eat, but all delicious. They will cater to dietary needs. A woman at our table turned downed their specialty--ployes (yummy buckwheat pancakes with cinnamon chips)--for a bowl of cereal.
The owners also advised us about activities and distances during our stay. They provided us with a detailed map to six covered bridges in the area, which was delightful. The main Amish country is only about a 15-20 minute drive and the drive is beautiful. Lititz has remained uncommercialized. Our favorite place was a park just around the corner where we could feed ducks and meet the locals who walked there. My husband enjoyed sitting out on the Alden House porch in a rocking chair while working on his Blackberry!
The Alden House and Lititz are definitely on my list of places to visit again!
