Having just left this restaurant, I've actually just hit a milestone in my dining career – walking out without leaving ANY tip. But, as I review the other comments here on TA, I realize that I've joined “The Club.”
Our lunch experience was horrible. Arriving to a medium-busy restaurant, with one large table in our section, it seemed like a nice place. The big table was just getting their checks and the menu looked reasonable with a couple of interesting sandwich choices.
We ordered Bloody Mary’s which took a good 10-15 minutes until they arrived, it was foreshadowing of what was to come. By the way, water was requested 3 times before it arrived. After ordering a salad with chicken tenders & fries on top, and a turkey club sandwich, we sat back to enjoy our drinks. Little did we know that we wouldn't see our waitress again for another 40 minutes.
She finally arrived to tell us that the “food was coming right out” and vanished again. When she re-appeared 10 minutes later, we held up our hands to say “where’s the food?” or more likely, “where are you?” The restaurant wasn't busy at that time at all, and our waitress admitted they were under-staffed that day and didn't anticipate the rush. What rush, the restaurant was half full…and she could have told us this earlier.
As tables who had ordered after us (family members of employees) started receiving food, we finally had to say we wanted the food in 5 minutes or we were walking out as it was over an hour. After a sprint back to the kitchen, she returned to say the manager would bring out the food and “tell us what he was going to do for us.” He arrived with the food, apologized about the waitress not posting the order, and offered to buy us two more drinks…which we declined.
Unfortunately, after he left, we realized the salad arrived without the French fries and had to ask another waitress to bring them as ours had vanished once again. The club sandwich was marginal, basically 3 slices of toast and two slices of turkey. The fries were good, but still didn't make up for the service.
We eat out enough to know that restaurants have bad days, but after reading the reviews here on TripAdvisor, I think this restaurant has many bad days. It’s about communication. All the waitress or the manager had to do was come by and say that the kitchen was understaffed…but there was no communication at all, so we had no idea what was going on. We could have sat with another drink and waited, but got so fed up with waiting without word from anybody that we had to get out of there.
We would NOT recommend going to Bull Run unless you see a turnaround in their reviews…otherwise you will join The Club like we did today!
