Description: During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him. We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants. As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant. All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs. Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs. We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

“Creative cuisine a treasure in PA Dutch country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2010

You might expect good food in the PA Dutch country, but most places were just awful! John J. Jeffries was the culinary highlight of our trip. For an appetizer, we had grass-fed, aged steak tartar. It was smooth and rich; little surprises of seasoning added sparkle. "Pork Belly Love" seemed like an unlikely combination of pork belly (like mellow bacon), cantaloupe, mild chevre, and a slightly sweet port wine reduction. Love, indeed! My husband had a lamb steak with a rub that included coffee, which greatly intensified the flavors. My duck breast was served over rissoto and dressed with a merlot reduction. Perfection. There were many wine choices, but only one or two were under $40. Our $35 Cabernet was lovely after a little airing. The service was friendly, cordial and attentive. At $120 for dinner, this was an exceptional meal.

“If you love lard, this is your dream come true.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2010

We didn't stay after learning that their potatoes are fried in lard. Lard is also used in several other dishes. We thought it would be great to eat at an organic restaurant, surrounded by all those lush Amish farms. Who knew? Organic is not the same as healthy. Meat is very big here, especially pork, and there was only one veggie entree, which included those lard-fried potatoes. Go to Gibraltar (upscale, fantastic) or Iron Hill Brewery (casual brew-pub with surprisingly broad menu choices). Both are 2 1/2 blocks north on Harrisburg by Franklin And Marshall.

“We were very suprised! All local and organic. A great find.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

We came up to Lancaster for a break from the city. We were resigned to eatting at a chain restaurant but somehow found this spot! The food was amanzing, service great and prices reasonable. We did need a reservation. All was wonderful. We just wished the cheese plate had some accompaniments. All local and organic. A great find.

“A Refreshing Twist on Great Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2010

John J. Jeffries had great food in very unique yet elemental form which supported local agriculture (always a plus). The Tartar was amazing along with my girlfriend's Vegetarian dish. The appetizers and dishes were fresh, well prepared, and most importantly, flavorful. This was a very tasty and refreshing experience. Plus the coffee was brought out and freshly pressed in a French press! Wonderful!
