Description: During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him. We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants. As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant. All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs. Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs. We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

“Great Meal with Organic Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014

My cousins were visiting in the area and I was charged with finding a restaurant that we could have a meal and chit chat. The John J. Jeffries was everything we could have wanted. Our waiter, Hunter, was truly accomodating including getting a drink to settle my cousin's tummy. He took a number of pics for us and handled our food with ease. The food was done to perfection and we all had an enjoyable time. In fact, no one rushed us out of the dining room and we were able to chit chat over coffee. what a delightful place.

“Best food for miles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

Go here. It is the cleanest, freshest food for miles. Wish we had gone here on the first night of our trip- we would have been back each night. Food is beautifully prepared and delicious. They use quality ingredients, locally sourced and many organic choices. Service was excellent and for a high-end restaurant, they were very kid-friendly. Many great choices for vegetarians too!

“Aspirations well beyond their reach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014 via mobile

My husband and I arrived with a dinner reservation at 7:00 on a Saturday, assured that this was one of the best, if not the best restaurant in Lancaster. The reception desk was crowded with parties being turned away, or sent to the bar, due (I presume) to having no reservation. The dining room was only 1/4 full when we arrived, nearly as many unoccupied tables when we left two hours later (near full in between, however). Once seated, we were given menus and a wine list by an overly-stiff server who did not seem particularly knowledgable when asked about details on the food and drinks we were interested in. The food turned out to be a disappointment, well below the quality we had the previous night, about a block away at Checkers Bistro. Some dishes were visually unappealing though tasty (tomato gazpacho w/ green marinated shrimp; tomato, basil, mozzarella, cucumber salad). Some were visually unappealing AND unappetizing (pork gordita on polenta). See the photos we're posting.
The restaurant needs to loosen up a bit, and pay more attention to the visual appeal of its too-often crudely plated dishes. High aspirations are admirable, but here they're still just aspirations.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

May be the highlight of our quick stop in Lancaster. Superb!

A little put-off when we arrived and realized the restaurant was situated in a hotel. Hostess was a bit less than organized. Everything changed once we got seated.

Nice outdoor area and extremely attentive service. Loved our waiter - very knowledgeable of the menu and the locally sourced produce. Menu changes daily based on fresh product availability. We had a selection of small plates as well as main meals and desserts and everything was presented well, served hot and simply delicious.

Excellent dining experience!

“Excellent service with good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

My wife and I recently visited this restaurant and enjoyed the experience. Our waiter was excellent-very attentive but not overbearing. I ordered the liver and fried onions as an appetizer-some of the best I have had. My wife ordered the home made soup combination which was very flavorful. The main courses-were good but not exceptional. The pork dish was good but the pork was slightly on the chewy side. My fish was not as flaky as I like but tasted great. We enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere as well as the evening. I would recommend this restaurant.
