Description: During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him. We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants. As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant. All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs. Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs. We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

“Dinner in the Arts Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Dinner at John J Jeffries was outstanding. We entered the restaurant through the very busy bar which seems to be the local up-scale hangout. We were lead to a small private dinning room with about six tables. Our waiter was very personable and knowledgeable about the food which is locally grown, made or hunted.
We had the Artisan cheese plate. The cheese was fresh and melted in our mouths. For our entrees we had the Vegetarian Dosas, it was full of flavor. The Skuna Bay Salmon, fresh and firm. I had the nights special, Red Deer. I had never eaten deer before and I must say it is mild, tender and very flavorful.
I would return to this restaurant over and over.

“Great food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013 via mobile

The food was excellent. It was our 1 year anniversary and this was the place to go. Had steak tartare for the first time and it was to die for. Would recommend this place to anyone. We are planning to go back next year for our 2nd anniversary.

“Just wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

We were staying at the Lancaster Arts hotel and just wanted a small dinner so we chose something from the small plate menu. My husband had the shanker and I had the Jim Bim Bop on the recommendation of the server and we weren't disappointed. In particular the Jim Bim Bop was tremendous - the spicy meat mix complemented to pickled vegetables so well. I was very impressed and it takes a bit to impress me.

“Delicious food, great service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

We really enjoyed our dinner here! I had a Pennsylvania Vesper cocktail, which is their version of a martini with a local vodka rye-- very smooth and perfectly mixed. We each got a small plate and a large plate. We can't have gluten and there were many choices, including the fried chicken, which was outstanding and extremely crispy. Most of the food is locally sourced. We are visiting from out of town and wish they were open for lunch so we can go back one more time!
