“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2010

Stayed here for a convention in Lancaster. The room was a little dusty and the checkin staff on Sunday afternoon wasn't the most helpful bunch, but things got better. Especially liked the complimentary cab service--it saved us a lot of money in parking fees, and it was convienient and reliable. Not your typical hotel in that each room is different, and faithful to the historical qualities of the hotel. The weekday staff, including the breakfast bar manager and the cleaning ladies, were friendly, helpful and fun.

This hotel reminded me of a small European hotel with a few more benefits. The name of the hotel reflects the artwork throughout the hotel which included paintings, sculpture and even furniture all from local artists.

We stayed in a studio room with a queen bed. The room was on the small side, but it was beautifully appointed. There was free WiFi, a coffee maker, ironing board, hair dryer (not attached to the wall) and even a wine refrigerator. I enjoyed the bed, but my husband found it was a bit too soft. There was the usual double-sheeted duvet and other attractive touches. One problem was that there were wooden blinds on the window without blackout curtains. Had the day been sunnier, the light would have awakened us at the crack of dawn.

The staff at the hotel were extremely pleasant and accommodating. They even had a card listing nearby restaurants that they offered at the front desk. Our request for extra towels was answered promptly.

The included continental breakfast was served on china with real flatware, much like a European hotel would offer. It included muffins, bagels, cheese, fruit, yogurt, cereal, a microwaveable hot selection as well as hard-boiled eggs. They even had syrups to make flavored coffee. The breakfast room was bright and pleasant and the staff there was friendly, helpful and efficient.

We were attending a conference at the Lancaster Convention Center about a mile away and they provided free cab service so we saved money on downtown parking. The cab will take you anywhere within a five-mile radius of the hotel at no charge. Also, my husband used one of their complimentary bikes to explore the area. They also provide free use of GPS systems to help navigate the area. The hotel has a small fitness center which we did not use, but they also provide free use of the facilities at the brand-new YMCA across the street.

All in all, it was a short, but extremely pleasant stay and I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Lancaster whether there on business or for a leisure trip.

good: high ceilings, good beds and baths, free wifi and coffee/teas in the AM
bad: wooden floors could be noisy above or beside room and very slow elevator

restaurant was better 2 years ago it seemed to me, but there were some good dishes and fairly priced wines...worth a try, bar scene is mellow but busy

We had a wonderful time on our trip to Lancaster. The hotel was in walking distance to downtown and not far from the major roadways. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with advice on what to do in the area. They also knew all the great places to eat!! We would definately stay again on our next trip.

Been traveling to Lancaster on business for years but never stayed in the center city. Much enjoyed this stay at the Lancaster Arts and will be back. A wonderful blend of the new and trendy with the soul and ambiance of a historic (tobacco warehouse) structure. Rooms are large and pleasantly decorated - original art displayed throughout the 5- story hotel. Free indoor parking and fine staff service.
