“Ah-maz-ing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

We had a gift certificate, so we ordered 2 antipasto dishes, the calamari and mussels. I can't rave enough about the mussels, they were the best I have had in a long time. I wasn't as into the calamari, but I like very crispy and this calamari was lightly cooked. We shared the Cesar salad, steak panini and fries, pollo basillica, and fettuccine Alfredo with salmon (not at at once, we got take out so we could share everythong as a group!) and I was extremely impressed with everything. To top off our "trip advisor food critic" night, we had lemon layer cake and tiramisu. Once again, it was perfect. We are very picky, so compliments to the chef for making us 5 star meals. The staff who took our order was good and everything was done right on time.

“Would suggest reservation!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

My wife and met friends there for their first time. Since the other couple were not sure when they would ba available we didn't make a reservation. Big mistake. We arrived around 6:15 pm and had to wait about 45 mins. for a table of 4. Once we were seated the server arrived quite promtly and maintainted contact with us the whole time we were there. The entres were well prepared and worth the cost with more than enough content for the average eater. The pizza's were quite small for the cost and were just ok as far as taste. Would reccomend it to friends!

“Solid, tasty, family-friendly, but still up-market and cosy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Ciro's is a great choice. Not the cheapest Italian around, but one of the best I've experienced in Lancaster County. Good entrees, salads, decent wines, some unique dishes, friendly wait-staff and even a gelato bar. Reservations needed on weekends!

“Cosi cosi aka so-so”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Ciro’s promotes itself as an Italian Bistro. Bistro, yes – it is small, and it does serve alcohol. But in terms of Italian, well, not so much. There is no fresh or homemade pasta. The pizza is “fire-roasted”, but NOT brick oven – there are gas jets fueling the fire. The flavor is more American buffet than Italian.

Dined there twice to be fair. Best things: Sharon our server was top-notch in terms of menu knowledge and customer service. Very good. Star of the menu: App of lollipop lamb chops! Nice char on the outside, good glaze with forward notes of rosemary to complement the lamb. Served with an assertive arugula and gorgonzola salad that brought the flavors together nicely. However – one time we went the serving was 2 double chops. 2 days later the serving was 2 single chops; hard not to feel cheated. They explained it as sometimes having 2 bones per chop, but believe me the portion size was different.

The pizza is mediocre at best and that's being kind. Had the Frutti de Mare, and it was so soggy you could barely serve a slice of it; picking it up to eat it wasn’t an option. I think we found 1 scallop and 1 mussel; but there was about a full can of chopped canned clams, plus way too much tomato sauce – a soggy mess. The flavor was flat – it needed some lemon or herbs or something to give it a better flavor than canned chopped clams. The Salsiccia (cherry bomb peppers and fennel sausage) was also flat-tasting. When you got a bite of spicy pepper or fennel it was OK, but basically another soggy flat-tasting pie. The house wine was billed as “really good” – but wasn’t.

Had a pumpkin risotto, and it’s ridiculous to call it that. Think mac n cheese on day two: a gloppy gluey mess. There were no individual grains of rice – they were bloated, starchy, and congealed into more of a casserole than a risotto. Flavor was maybe OK, but hard to get past the texture.

So there are a lot of things on the menu we didn’t try – but without fresh pasta, why bother? Not into the gelato bar or whatever that was – that looked goopey as well! To walk in and expect an Italian restaurant, it didn’t fit the bill. May go back for the lamb lollipops, hope we get the double next time – but would not look to it as a great or even good Italian place to eat.

“another delightful meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Returned with friends for an unrushed dinner. had delicious veal picata and scrumptious gelatos. Flat-iron pork very good. Salmon a little dry. Need to come again to try some of the other great-looking homemade desserts. Service very friendly.
