“Exotic Mexican Ice Cream - A Wonderful Guilty Pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

We were driving through Kennett Square, PA and searched on our smartphone for the nearest ice cream place and Michoacan came up. This is a very small shop that looks like an old fashioned corner grocery from the outside but is a compact ice cream wonderland inside with a terrific assortment of ice creams, popsicles and Mexican desserts on a stick.

I asked for a caramel milk shake with cake-flavored ice cream (Pan Dulce) and asked for caramel to be added - the proprietor asked if I wanted the caramel mixed into the shake or drizzled down the inside of the cup. We wound up doing both. The caramel is old-fashioned, thick, sweet and butterscotch flavored which is hard to find these days.

My wife noticed that the ice cream flavor that was most popular was "corn" so she ordered that and when she did, she was asked if she wanted chili powder sprinkled on it. I know. That sounds a little weird, corn flavored ice cream with hot chili powder on top. But it was INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. What a strange and wonderful taste sensation, totally unexpected. It was an Andrew Zimmern moment!

We highly recommend the Michoacan Ice Cream shop in Kennett Square if you want something really special and out of the ordinary. A great place to bring the family, or a date.

“Almost left without getting any”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014 via mobile

Was in Kennett Square for dinner after visiting Longwood Gardens and saw people walking and eating ice cream. After dinner we wandered down the street to this ice cream shop. My wife and I were trying to decide on weather to go home for frozen yogurt or try this place. We were going to leave when a lady told us we had to try La Michoacana. " It is world famous she said". So we went in and the staff was so friendly. They offered samples of anything. So I got the corn flavor and my wife had the coconut chocolate chip. The ice cream was so smooth and creamy. You have to think out of the box with this place for ice cream. The flavors are not the norm. What a find on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. We will definitely be back because it is only about 40 minutes away from home.

“Who woulda thunk it?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

Here's an ice cream parlor that is better than any ice cream parlor anywhere. The ice cream parlor is on one street and the grill is on another. We didn't go to the grill, but had dinner at Portabello's which serves La Michoacana Ice Cream. We had their peanut butter ice cream. To die for! If you pass this one up when you're in the area, shame! shame!

“Best ice cream around!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Definitely sample a few flavors before choosing- you might not be able to make up your mind!

If you don't like dairy, they make water ice on site as well. The strawberry water ice is amazing!

Expect to eat outside on a bench, the building is small and is for carry out service only.

“Best ice cream in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

A wide variety of flavors but I like to judge on how well they do the basics first. Their vanilla ice cream is smooth and creamy with no ice crystals. They're chocolate milk shakes are terrific. Friendly service. They could use a larger space to accommodate all of their fans!
