“Excellent as always - a couple of suggestions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Back in PA for the first time this year we enjoyed another excellent meal. Light delicious salads, and fresh items on the menu but still a few old favourites (papardelle with wild boar ragu for instance).
Just two suggestions for the management.
First the menu includes the term "Dujour" in several places. "Du jour" means of the day of course - but is two words, not one. We don't write "oftheday" in one word in English, and the French don't either.
Second, and not a new request, would the waiters please mention the price of the specials when reading them out. Typically a host will not want to ask in front of their guests, and that's sometimes fine when the specials are around or less than the prices of typical dishes on the menu, but not fine when they are more expensive. Please just say at what price they are offered.

“big fan of this place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I am a huge fan of this place. Been coming here for the last 2 years or so. Everytime I have eaten here, it's been nothing but a fantastic experience. Lunch or dinner is fantastic. . Their food is awesome and always cooked to perfection. Service is top notch and the atmosphere is really nice. Not to mention a great wine list!

“Second trip was as good as the first!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

We dined at Sovana Bistro two years ago when we visited the Brandywine Valley and were so looking forward to it again upon our return this year. It was just as great the second time around! Very imaginative cocktails, a delicious cheese plate and mushroom tart for appetizers, barramundi was the fish special so we both opted for it. The fish was great! We split a butterscotch cake for dessert and it was delicious with a great cup of decaf (which is difficult to find!). So glad we chose Sovana again!

“An off day perhaps?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013 via mobile

Our expectations were high from reading reviews. Perhaps our dinner reservation was late (7:45pm)? But our experience was mediocre. My party of five was not greeted in a particularly welcoming manner. Our table was next to the ladies restroom which was a busy spot. Waiters could have been more patient and helpful (we had Brazilians in our group who found it hard to follow what he was saying). Food was nothing special. So we were rather disappointed. I have friends that rave about this bistro.

“Good Food ~~ Horrible Rip-off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

My reviews on Trip Advisor are fair, and I promise to be fair with this one. The food at this restaurant is beautifully prepared and is indeed delicious. The chef is top notch. However, the quantities are microscopic and the atmosphere is noisy and close. The tables are overbooked and people wait at least 20-30 minutes before being seated, even with a reservation. It's small and crowded. Many patrons seem familiar to one another. There are apparently folks in the area who either don't mind having their eye teeth extracted while they look the other way or, as my dad would say 'have more money than brains,' because this place gets you coming and going. Everything is charged a la carte at ridiculous prices, and I do mean ridiculous. I know what that means, because as a rule I do not flinch at the cost of a 4-star meal, especially if it's an enjoyable one.

This place actually adds an "up charge" to your bill for putting alcohol in its cocktails! Yes, you read that correctly. A margarita costs $8.00 with an additional $3.00 charge which, we were told, was the cost of adding alcohol to the drink! The same was true for an order of scotch on the rocks, which arrived as a "scotch-and-a-half on the rocks" and was charged as a double. Again, the explanation was that it cost extra because it was ordered on ice. Ridiculous. To be fair, after discussing our concerns with first the waitress (who commented that this question about the added charge for alcohol "happens all the time" - - and no wonder!) and then with the manager for what should have taken 2 minutes (but took closer to 20), the drinks were sourly removed from our bill. Even so, the customer service was extremely snarly and obviously intended to send us the message 'please do not come back,' rather than 'we value your patronage.' This meal, which was tasty, but certainly not mind-blowing, cost the 4 of us well over $300.

We left Sovana Bistro feeling hungry and fleeced.
