“A terrific way to spend a day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

My family and I love visiting Longwood as much as we can - there's always new scenery to see. It never feels crowded, there's plenty of shade even on blazing hot outside, and there are loads of activities (and wide open space) for kids to wear themselves out.

Give yourself several hours to explore the grounds and the Conservatory - you will not regret it!

“Stunning Gardens and Conservatory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We have visited a lot of gardens over the years, so I was curious to see how this would stand up. It was amazing. The outdoor displays of fountains and water features, flower beds, topiary, lawns are all first rate. But I think the real gem is the most enormous conservatory I have ever come across. This "building" (it's really multiple buildings) alone is worth the visit, especially if you go in summer when the water lily garden in the center is open. (And be sure to go to the bathroom area to see the living walls, not to mention the nice individual toilets!) They also have a pleasant restaurant area with lovely ice cream. It's a lot of easy walking, but takes multiple hours to see the whole place. I wish we lived closer so we could visit again. If you do live nearby, a yearly membership would be well worth it.

“Picture Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

What a feast for the eyes! The 4-acre conservatory is magic, as is the fountain show in the garden. On-site restaurant, 1906, is fantastic -- a four-star delight. The popovers, refreshing drinks, and entrees were all amazing -- but the ice cream was superb. Not inexpensive. A reservation is a good idea.

“Wish we had a full day to take this in!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We spent my wife's birthday here, taking in the conservatory, a Carbon Leaf live concert and musical/special lighting fountain show at night!

It would have been so nice to walk around the rest of the property but we ran out of time and it was simply too hot to have spent more time outside!

“A favorite place to visit any time of the year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

A summer visit to Longwood Gardens is as much fun and as interesting and beautiful as it is during any time of the year. Outside we saw fountains and a waterfall, various crops growing in the idea garden, the lovely front porch at the Peirce DuPont house, the Italian water garden all the while walking among the tall trees that provide plenty of shade. You might enjoy looking inside at all there is to see in the Conservatory, including a really enjoyable children's garden with some hands on water features. When you feel as though you need a snack or a refreshing beverage, check out the Cafe at the Terrace. If you enjoy fine dining, then be sure to look at the menu in the 1906 Fine Dining Room. Either might have just what you like.
There are so many events at Longwood to enjoy this summer I am having a difficult time deciding which to attend. Some are free with admission and some have an additional fee with admission. I am sure we will enjoy the fireworks. You can see all the events and find out more by looking at the website www.longwoodgardens.org.
