With a little extra time in Johnstown, we stopped by Grandview Cemetery as it was featured prominantly in the video at the Johnstown Flood National Memorial.
It was really dumbfounding to see headstone after headstone read "Drowned May 31, 1889."
The most amazing thing to see is the monument to the unidentified dead. Over 750 graves are marked with plain white headstones and in front of them is a large angel. Very moving.
I know cemeteries aren't everyone's cup of tea as an attraction, but this really is an amazing sight to see when learning about the flood.
