“You must stop here and see the movie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Johnstown is famous for the three floods that devastated the town and killed scores of people. The film, The Johnstown Flood, won an academy award and is an emotional ride through the flood of 1889. Wonderful displays of artifacts and more.

“History Lesson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

If time allows, I would agree that visiting the dam sight first might give what you learn at the museum more perspective. However, we did the museum first and that was ok too. We had children with us and they were most interested in the movie which is very well done. We also enjoyed the displays in the building as well as looking at the old building itself. Definately the Flood Museum and Incline are musts in Johnstown.

“Better Film Than at the Johnstown National Flood Memorial”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012

Good museum for it's size, nice old building, interesting displays. Not overly comprehensive, but nicely done and worth a visit. The film is much better in my opinion than the one shown at the Johnstown National Flood Memorial, as it is simply a better production all around.

Downtown Johnstown is suffering from typical rust belt economic decay, but it is interesting nonetheless. Up on the hill very near the top of the Inclined Plane is a very lovely neighborhood called Westmont, with many beautiful old houses. TIP: for 50 cents you can buy a map of the neighborhood with notes about dozens of houses that you can walk by. We would have thought Johnstown a rather depressing place had be not spent some time walking around Westmont!

“A History Lesson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2012

Bring the kids along. You will ALL be delighted with the learning experience. But as a suggestion, visit the actual dam site FIRST. It will provide more insight once you visit the Museum.

“Amazing History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

Lots of information contained in this rather small museaum. It is worth the time to visit and learn about the devastation that this small town endured.
