We recently stayed here with a bridal group and was blown away with the accommodation and hospitality.
the views are magic, food is awesome, rooms are divine and the position is perfect.
the owners go above and beyond to make everyone to feel comfortable and looked after.
A true treat in every way xxxx
If you are looking for something special in the Wollombi area, this is the place to be. My parents live locally, so i know the area well and this place blew me away !!!!!

We keep coming back to this lovely Boutique Guest House. Jane and Michael make sure that our every need is catered for. Our room - one at the front of the house overlooking the valley was beautifully decorated with luxury appointments and has French doors which open up allowing you to sit on the wide sandstone verandah, vitrually amongst the birds. The vista is stunning.
Breakfast is eaten in this same location - Jane's food is divine.
The house looks like it is 200 years old but amazingly was built about 20 years ago from old convict hewn sandstone so has all the mod cons you could desire, whilst the internal sandstone walls take you back a couple of centuries. It really is a wonderful experience.
We will definitely be going back there.

Six of us stayed at Capers as we were attending a concert in the Vineyards . Jane. & Michael made us feel at home providing cheese, biscuits & port. No complaints about us staying up late chatting either. Beautiful breakfasts on the verandah in the morning . Rooms very tasteful , and more than comfortable with robes , slippers & chocolates provided . All in all a lovely stay .

We spent Christmas in Wollombi with extended family and were very fortunate to be able to stay close by at Capers. On arrival we discovered that Jane and Michael had decorated the cottage beautifully for Christmas, with a wreath on the front door and a lovely Christmas tree in the lounge. The cottage was very homely and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The fridge was stocked with loads of food for breakfast and the paper and fresh bread was delivered to the front door in the morning. We had a lovely stay at Capers with our family - thank you Jane and Michael for your fantastic hospitality!

Lured to Capers by the promise of fine Scottish fare, bagpipes and whisky I was not disappointed. This sandstone guesthouse with its open wood fire places and a stunning view of the Wollombi valley in Autumn was the perfect place to meet new friends and be enthralled by the master storytelling of Whisky ambassador, James Buntin. During the evening we tasted our way around Scotland's whisky regions, appreciating the finer details of single malt production and flavours.

Dinner began with cock-a-leekie soup and 'smokie in a pokie'. It was followed by the ceremonial arrival of the haggis, lead by a resplendent Scottish piper and chef Jane. James Buntin delivered a captivating ode to the haggis before we all tucked into this highland treat. For desert our taste buds were again treated to marmalade pudding, burnt cream and raspberries.

Sitting around the open fires we relaxed the evening away continuing our tour of the whisky regions and sharing a laugh with our charming ambassador. Highland fudge, shortbread and liqueurs topped the evening before departing to finely appointed guest rooms for the night.

After a most satisfying sleep a full breakfast was served, complete with black pudding, on the verandah and the valley again offered a stunning Autumn view beneath clear blue skies. We drank to good health and we all left much healthier and happier thanks to a great stay.

6 of us stayed at Caper’s in the cottage for 2 nights in November. On arrival in Wollombi we made our way to the questhouse for the key, Jayne and Michael were very welcoming and we all fell in love with the guesthouse and cottage. The cottage itself sits down the hill from the guesthouse and has 3 bedrooms, 2 have a double bed and the the third room contains 1 double bed and 2 singles. There are 3 bathrooms in the cottage, basically all ensuites, one even contains a spa. The kitchen is great, and a large range of breakfast food is supplied including packets of cereal, bread, bacon, tomatoes, plenty of eggs, milk and even home made marmalade! The verandah around the house is all netted so you can sit out there and enjoy the fresh air whenever you like. It is only a short walk into the main area of Wollombi, where there is a cafe, restaurant, general store, antique shop, plant nursery and the pub. We had lunch booked at the cafe, where the food was good, (the scones were delicious too). We explored the town, and visited the winery, along with the nursery & gift shop, which had some lovely things in it, then we wandered back to the cottage to relax before our dinner reservation. We had dinner at Panino’s just down the road, just note, if leaving the restaurant late to head back to the cottage, take the torch from the kitchen table as it is very, very dark walking along the road. Jayne & Michael think of everything! The cottage has a homely feel, where we could comfortably sit back and relax in the lounge room. The weather during our stay wasn’t that warm but I still went in the pool, which is a great outdoor area. As we were at Capers celebrating a 50th Birthday we had organised masages and also asked Jayne about organising a high tea, so she put one on for us. The massages (a woman came to the guesthouse to do this) received mixed reviews, unfortunately most thought it wasn’t worth it. At 3pm we walked up to the guesthouse from the cottage for the High Tea & we could hear bagpipes, little did we know it was Michael who was playing them for us as a welcome to Capers. To hear those bagpipes resonate through the bush setting was just incredible, such a lovely and welcoming touch. The High Tea was divine, I lost count of the savoury courses, then the sweets arrived. Wow, Jayne did an amazing job. The lemon cupcakes and chocolate tarts were my personal favourites. It wasn’t until we had finished our tea and delicious cakes that Jayne told us it was the first High Tea she had done. None of us could belive it. Everything she bought out was equisite, she did a tremendous job.
Late in the afternoon we headed down to the pub to try the Jungle Juice...I’ll let you make up your own mind on that, but all the locals were friendly, the pub has a beautiful verandah & the meals we saw looked delicious. We spent the Saturday night in, & cooked up the (slightly spicey) sausages and tomatoes on the BBQ for a light dinner (still full from the High Tea).
I found during our stay that the beds were comfortable, shower caps, shampoo & conditioner were all supplied. There is a TV with dvd and videos for you to use, the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need, the bedrooms have plenty of room to store your clothes. We just couldn't fault anything about the cottage.
If I was returning to Wollombi I wouldn't hesitate in staying at Capers again. Thank you Jayne & Michael for making our weekend so memorable.

The cottage at Capers was transformed into wedding central for our daughter's recent wedding. With three bedrooms and lots of space it formed the ideal location to get the bride and bridesmaids rested, relaxed and themed up for the big day.

After the festivities it was a great place to relax for the family with comfy, clean rooms and a great breakfast hamper that recharged everyone ready for a day of cleaning.

The Cottage and Guesthouse are ideally located in Wollombi, close to Paninos Restaurant and the local tavern. The surrounding area is very scenic and close to the Hunter Vineyards, without being too close (expensive and noisy when you get too close).

Jane and Mike have created a great spot for a weekend getaway - or in our case a rustic country wedding retreat!
