“Love the the pool and its surroundings, though certainly not the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2009

We have recently returned from our stay, was our second time around in the past year, was enjoyable though standards in regards to cleanliness appeared to have dropped as on our arrival found our room not very clean, hair on bathroom floor along with dirty patches, cob webbs in the bedroom and a television which looked like they had been cooking on as it was so greasy and filthy, and also verandah floor was very dirty along with the slide doors, Though in saying this I would consider coming again because we love the pool and the surrounding though not certain. Service at front desk appalling, staff very rude.

Stayed here recently with family - 2 adults and 2 kids and loved it. Booked through holiday accommodation agent - accom nelson bay. better rates than hotel. Close to large shopping centre, great pool, nice dress shop on site and short drive to heaps of great beaches and some calm water bays for kids to swim. Stay in Port Stephens all the time and love it - first time stayed at this hotel will stay here again or try other self contained houses closer to beach through holiday booking with this agent

I stayed at the Pacific Blue Resort for my anniversary back in April 2008 for 3 nights. Working in the industry I have high expectations yet I couldn't fault them on a thing exept being charged to play tennis which is nothing.

Front Office was helpful, the rooms where lovely with the pool just a step off our balcony, restaurant great, bar tenders where fantastic making us all the cocktails we request when they weren't even on the menu. Although we did have a strange experience as a couple in the room across from the restaurant had their curtains wide open & where being very intermate LOL!

Overall I LOVED IT and will be coming back as soon as I can.

We stayed at resort for 7 nights and loved every minute of it, we booked through a real estate in Nelson Bay which had a couple of rooms and was a lot cheaper than booking it straight through resort (we did have to bring all our own linen, towels), we had a 2 bedroom apartment which did not have the swimout area to jump straight into the pool which probably would have been nice but it really didn't matter to walk a few metres, I have an 18 year old and a 17 year old and they loved the pool, spa and being able to go down to cafe and have iced-chocolate or burgers/chips when they felt like it, I found the food in the restaurant good no problems at all although saying that we didn't really eat there that much only snacks/coffee cake that sort of thing, we ate at the local bowling club in Nelson Bay and found the food there to be disgraceful for the money we paid for the four of us, actually I couldn't really find a restaurant that had nice food in the whole of Nelson Bay. The pool area was fantastic I loved just floating around on my blow up lilo, it was busy at the time when we were there but it was never a problem we had unit 339 which only got a little bit of the hot sun in the afternoon but was cool the rest of the time. It got quite noisy about 8 - 10pm with excited children and music playing and I thought we would be up awake all night but at exactly 10pm it was dead silent. The shopping centre is within walking distance and has everything you need, there is a bowling alley across the road, video hire, hotel and Domino's pizza everything you could want really without having to travel anywhere if you didn't have a car, Nelson Bay is not a bad place very very busy in peak times, we drove around all the little beach towns and I must say that Oaks Pacific Blue was the best accommodation around in my opinion. We had our own 4WD so went down Stockton Beach for approx. 30 klms over some fantastic sand dunes and saw a ship wreck it was great for the kids, I would highly recommend a tour of the dunes and ship wreck if you didn't have your own 4WD. I have stayed in resorts all over the world and I really loved the Oaks Pacific Blue and I would highly recommend it, we drove from Melbourne to Nelson Bay stopping at various towns and accommodation along the way there and back and we wish we had of left Oaks Pacific Blue till last because nothing compared to it and we really missed that beautiful pool.

As soon as we stepped past the water fountains and into the stylish lobby of Oaks Pacific Blue, we knew that this was a top place to stay. I'll start with thing that people probably notice first when they see the resort- the large lagoon pool that circles the entire resort. This is where we spent plenty of hours, having lots of fun! The pool has plenty of sand 'islands' - places where people who didn't have a plunge balcony could enter- which had plenty of deck chairs to laze around in the sun. There were also two spas (one of which was unfortunately broken during our stay). Plenty of guests brought along their own inflatable pool chairs/ pool toys, which is a really good idea! We also utlised the tennis courts, the lap pool facilities, along with the gym and steam room... really great facilities!!

We stayed in a two bedroom style apartment, where one room has the bedroom with ensuite, the entire kitchen, dining and lounge area, and the second room was 'hotel' style which just a bed, bar fridge and bathroom. Rooms were tastefully decorated, kitchen and dining area was large and spacious, lounge was great, with a modern, wall mounted TV with DVD, stereo etc. All the appliances- kettle, toaster, fridge looked brand new, as expected of a new place! Our bathroom was large, included a spa, we also had a large walk-in wardrobe. The master bedroom also had its own wall mounted flatscreen TV, which was also a treat!

Our accomm deal also included the buffet breakfast, which was pretty average. On the first day, the 'fresh fruit' offered was abysmal- the fruit platter looked like it had been lying out for days! Luckily on the second morning there was an improvement. Food choice was pretty standard- your sausages, eggs, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes. A few cereal choices, toasts. Best thing was the fresh pancakes topped with berries that came out towards the end- unfortunately we didn't know about them until we were too full!

Overall this is a top place to stay, if you make use of all their facilities. The place looks fantastic and we had a great stay.

  • Liked — Pool, everything was new and in good working order
  • Disliked — Nothing really- but if I had to pick something, since we stayed in a two bedroom style apartment, with separate doors, it was a hassle to unlock each time- door stoppers would've been useful!

We stayed 5 nights in a 3 bedroom townhouse. The layout of the townhouse was perfect for the group of us that were staying - there was plenty of room and we had our own little plunge pool in the backyard. The resort looks nice and the pool that surrounds the resort is great.

However, the housekeeping at this property is awful. They never once cleaned our room properly. We requested for our room to be vacuumed (which we had to pay an additional charge for) and after 3 attempts, the housekeeping still did not do it properly - we just gave up in the end and put up with dirty carpets. We also were unable to use our oven as the housekeeping sprayed a very strong cleaner in there and when we turned it on, the fumes that it gave off were terrible. We did make a complaint and they did try to give it a clean, but it was still unable to be used.

I found the housekeeping to be a major problem at this resort and all 3 of the small children in our group ended up getting very sick after staying and swimming at the resort.

The restaurant was also terrible. We had dinner there one night and the food was awful.

The day spa was fantastic and worth a visit.

Overall, a nice property but they need to fix a lot of things up.

We stayed for five nights in a two bedroom apartment - really a one bedroom apartment connected to a studio apartment. Rooms were really nice and the one bedroom particularly spacious and well equipped.

The swimming pool is great for kids and for wading around, but is too shallow for swimming - only 0.9 m deep, but it does give the resort a fabulous look mand feel when sitting out on the balcony.

Our rooms were opposite the cafe area but we never found it too loud and we had the afternoon sun. The rooms on the other side of the resort were in the shade in the afternoon and didn't have as nice an outlook, so I recommend the cafe side of the resort.

The cafe/restaurant was good for a coffee or a drink, but the food was a real mish-mash - pizzas, hamburgers, salads, Asian dishes with nothing particularly good. We had the buffet which was just OK - lots of the sort of Asian dishes which you find in shopping centre food courts. However, lots of people seemed to be loading up on prawns and mussels to get their money's worth. The mussels were nice, though.

We enjoyed our stay and our kids (8 & 10) loved it. Nelson Bay town is a five minute drive away (you need a car) and is nothing special.

  • Liked — Nice rooms, pool
  • Disliked — Poor quality food
