“Perfect weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2008

We stayed 2 nights over the Valentines Day weekend and were very surprised and pleased at the level of service and value received at the Oaks Pacific Blue Resort.

From the outset, we were greeted warmly and made to feel like we were special guests - always singled out by the bar staff and welcomed back each time we sat at the poolside tables. We stayed in a studio swimout which was perfect for a couple.

The food was above average (the Greek Lamb Wrap fantastic for a summer's lunch), great table service and reception was always willing to oblige (we found a reback spider on the balcony and reception quickly sent a man to spray the area and remove the spider for us). The pool was enormous and the 2 tennis courts were great to play on.

Overrall, a fantastic place.... yes, it's not smack bang in the middle of Nelson Bay, but it's a short drive away and right next door to Salamander Bay shops... will definitely stay there again.

My friends and I recently stayed at Oaks Pacific Blue Resort for four day getaway which was a Christmas gift from my family. After reading the previous reviews regarding the lack of customer service by the staff, I was prepared for worst. However, when arriving we were pleasantly surprised by the reception staff’s professionalism and politenesses during our check in. Although, there was a minor glitch with our actual booking the staff handled the situation quite well and it was easily rectified, which we were also impressed by.

We then went to our Two bedroom swimout apartment, which was just beautiful. The room itself had everything we needed, two televisions, a cd player and with full kitchen and laundry facilities. The swimout was fantastic, we spent most of our time swimming or relaxing on the patio, being able to step off our balcony into the lagoon pool was wonderful.

I would definitely recommend this resort for anyone looking for an affordable getaway in a great location.

We have just stayed at at Oaks Pacific Blue and it was fabulous. We had a swimout apartment and everything is brand new. The pool is luxurious and if you are a tennis player there are great facilities. Food is good and we were close to shops and a short drive to the beach.

Love the atmosphere - perfect for couples and amazing if you have young families as you don't need to leave the resort.

I give this place and A+

Go - you will love it!

  • Liked — Facilities and pool also has a tennis court and gym
  • Disliked — wasn't on the beach

My sister and I have just returend from 3 great nights at Pacific Blue resort and I must admit we were pleasantly suprised. After reading the reviews on here we were a bit worried about how we would be greeted at reception. We didnt have to wait long and the man that was checking us in was really nice. He was laughing and joking with us and asked us about our drive up. Another lady that was behind the counter also started talking to us. We both walked out confused about the reviews we had read.

We stayed in a studio swim up and it was heaps of fun. The room was a little small but we were only in there to sleep as most of our time was spent in the pool. The pool is just amazing, 500m in length. There was always 2 men on opposites sides cleaning the pool, mainly getting the sand out that had been blown in from the little beaches.

The room was spotless, the only complaint we had was that the freezer needed to be defrosted. But that wasnt really an issue.

We only used the restaurant on our last night, we ate at the buffet. I thought it was expensive for what it was. Mainly chinese food, a bit of salad and seafood and a couple of desserts.

The cleaner came every day for a mini service to make the beds and empty the bins and change the towels. This was always at different times but it was no bother as we were on the balcony.

Checkout was just as nice and friendly as check in. Staff asked us how we enjoyed the stay and we had a nice conversation about the resort.

I am not sure if the resort has changed their staff or they have had customer service training but we never had a issue with any of the staff.

  • Liked — The pool
  • Disliked — The location, not much around and too far from the water

I would put 3 stars on this resort. The rooms were great. The cleaniness seemed good in our unit.
We chose this resort as it advertised buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner and pool swimout. The fact it was ratied 4 1/2 stars helped alot ( I think they got it wrong).
There is no such thing as service at the Oaks Port Stephens. When we arrived I noticed there was no hair dryer (which i not only needed I expected at a 4 + star resort). I was promptly told to come to reception to pick it up. Now I don't mind a walk when I am paying for and staying in a 3 star resort but not 4 1/2. There were several other things that happened throughout the weekend in regards to this.
As for the buffet. Dinner consists of mainly chinese food ( which i am not sure of but i guess contains MSG ) and I am not a chinese food fan. I guess when a resort advertises Buffet in Australia I expect a normal Buffet. Don't be fooled the seafood night is also chinese.
Breakfast was worse. Eggs that looked like they had been sitting there for over an hour, no pastries, 2 cereals, 2 juices. I think they got most of the food on the cheap and cooked it badly.
We chose to go to peppers for breakfast instead. I will say the manager admitted it was a substandard breakfast when we conplained but he had a new chef starting that morning and hadn't bothered to check the food.
Yes the resort is nice as far as pool etc goes, although I have to admit my daughter has ended up with an outer ear infection caused by bacteria which started to display itself on the trip home. to Sydney.
Would I stay there again. maybe but I would go elsewhere for meals. Would ask my children to keep their ears out of the water, and take my own hair dryer.
It's such a shame because the potential is there. I hope the Oaks read these evaluations and act on them.

We stayed at the Oaks Pacific Blue Resort the weekend of January 19, 2008, and stayed in lagoon 'swim up' room. It is impressive, sure, but the finer details leave alot to be desired.

Our requested adjacent rooms were actually quite far apart, despite being told they were, infact, 'right next door'. On the surface, the rooms were clean, however on closer inspection we found fingerprints all over everything that had a shiny surface, a dirty dishwasher with a suspicious odour, dishes in the cupboard with a fine film of grease, towels shoved unceremoniously on the rack, blankets (not folded, or attempted to be folded) thrown into the wardrobes, and a dirty balcony (with dirty furniture) that quite obviously hadn't even been swept in some time.

The lagoon pool is a nice relaxing thing to do, and being able to walk around the resort while still in the pool is quite novel. Our request for a late check out (prior to our arrival) was refused curtly, told (verbatim) 'We have 100 people checking in the day after. We are VERY busy, and need to clean the rooms before check in. So no late check out'.

Clean the rooms, huh? Could have fooled us.

  • Liked — The lagoon pool, view of said pool from the balcony
  • Disliked — Cleanliness and 'friendly' staff

We have a family of five including a three year old stayed at the resort 2 bedroom lagoon. It's downstairs unit which allows us to go straight out to the lagoon pool and the spa pool. Across the pathway is the Gym, steam room and the lap pool for us. The room has most modern facilities with flat screen TVs, LG digital CD player, reverse cycle air conditioning, washing machine, clothers dryer with complementary washing powder. Kitchen facilities with dishwasher. There are also tennis court in the resort and people played tennis at night too.

The resort is not far from all the beaches you need to go to including Salamander Bay, Nelson Bay, Fingal Bay, Anna Bay and One Mile beach.

We ate at the resort first night then onto Nelso Bay RSL near Fingal bay and the third night, we had tried the Anna Bay Thai restaurant and they are all very nice and quite reasonably priced. There are buffet dinner at the resort as well.

While we stayed there, we went to Tobbogan Hills park (just up the road on Salamanda Way) to have tobbogan rides. We had also done Moonshadow dolphin cruise which they have boom net where the children can play on the slide. We then have boogie boarding in One Mile beach.

All very nice and enjoyed the trip very much. I would recommend this to everyone.

  • Liked — Very convenient and modern
  • Disliked — some insects around but they are everywhere
