“Not bad if on a budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We were a group of four (22 - 15) and it suited us well. You get your own room and tiny bathroom as well as access to the main house with 2 restaurants. The 3 courses are ok if you're into the buffet thing, though I was rather disappointed that there were limited to no fruit options at breakfast (by the end of the stay I spied the staff stash and asked for some). If you can get into the grill (cook your own - fresher salads, better sides, nicer meat), get in right on opening time before everyone else has slathered their marinade all over the grill.
We were disappointed though in the room service, toilet paper constantly ran out, they just put the floor mat on the heater and emptied the bins. Beds were super uncomfortable also which wasn't pleasant with those aching joints.
However, the staff were attentive and the hire guys were great (took our stuff back to get a few things changed over on several occasions without incident).
Not bad for a budget option close to the snow.

This is fairly basic accommodation. No tv or fridge in room but the. It's pretty short drive to the snow fields. Grandmas floral sheets from 1970. Friendly staff and helpful manager. Restaurant bar/grill has s good atmosphere. Set menu restaurant is ok. Shuttle bus can take you to ski and bring you back and these run really regularly.

The Ski Rider Hotel is a basic no-frills hotel that is almost on-snow. A regular 10 minute shuttle bus takes you to up to Perisher or Smiggins and gets you back to a no-frills room that's clean warm and serves the purpose of allowing you to rest and recharge before heading back up the mountain for another day in the snow.
A basic ski hire shop staffed by a knowledgeable team compliments the restaurants and bars that make one feel welcome and relaxed. In fact all the staff are standouts. They are young, lively and thoroughly committed to ensuring you have a great time. They are what makes the Ski Rider such a great place. It was a pleasure to be served by them. (Stopping at McDonald's Sutton Forrest on the way home brought us back down to earth about what the normal standards of service are)
Food is plentiful if basic, and given it is inclusive allows you to make the big breakfast last most of the day so you can avoid the $15.00 on-snow hamburgers.
The Saturday night entertainment was just loud enough to get the bar pumping without disturbing the sleep of guests in units close to the main building and was complimented by plenty of staff joining in to make the party a little better. They know how to party too, albeit the Canadian Club "raffle" was won by one of them - after hearing her boyfriend who also works there won the equivalent raffle last year we became just a little suspicious....
All in all though we had no complaints - we'll be back next season.

Room Tip: Not much storage space in rooms if six adults staying

Took a long weekend bus ski trip. Price was reasonable, but doesn't live up to their web site claims. Food was like other reviews indicated - rubber and cardboard - yesterdays reheated pizza and speer gun rubbers for pasta. Entertainment definately not for the under 30's, might be okay if you want to eat and sleep - good for small family, but not those looking for night life after skiing. Although the bar prices are definately in line with night clubs - $7 a beer. Essentially it is your girl guide/school camp accomodation and food. Rooms are tiny, booked and paid for a 4 share only to find 2 random other guys were sharing, lucky other guys were compatable. Room had 2 cups for a six share! Hot water good for first two to shower, provided they didn't take too long. Once you are there you are there, may be only 15 mins to hill, but come 8 pm it's bedtime and no party, although the bar staff are happy to offer you a lift to Perisher Village, at a cost of $200 return trip and stories of full on night life and fun, however double check their recommendations, all is not what may be promised, and a quick $200 is a quick $200. Had a great time skiing but can now tick Ski Rider off the list - might cost a little more to go further up the hill or even stay in Jindibyne, but will be worth it for the full experience of ski all day and party all night.

Room Tip: Good room? Ask for one with hot water, power points and only the number of beds/people you booked f...

Our family of 5 stayed here in July for 2 nights. The rooms are basic but clean, warm and comfortable (no TV and no fridge in room). Each room has an ensuite, central heating and kettle. The staff are very friendly and helpful in all areas. The food in the dining area was ok but we much preferred the 'grill' (cook your own meat), this was exceptional. The drink prices at the bar were reasonable. Plenty of lounges and very family friendly. The free shuttle bus to Smiggins and Perisher was great. We will be back next year to celebrate our sons 18th Birthday :)

Stayed here for a weekend in early July 2012, with my wife and two daughters (11 & 14). Accommodation is very basic, but clean & tidy. Food in both the Dining Room and Grill were good (not great, but definitely acceptable & plentiful).

Staff were exceptionally good. In the hotel, bar, food areas, and ski rental, we only had A+ service from the young staff.

Great near-snow option if you want to save a few dollars, and don't need any 'pumping night-life'!! We would definitely stay here again.

Good for a ski weekend, a bed, a hot shower, a steak and a bar. But beyond that; it doesn't really live up to the standards of a 'hotel' where they make the bed and replace the soap; more like a 'sport and rec lodge'.

The atmosphere in the bar at night is great; but ALWAYS eat at the bar for dinner, never go to the bistro for dinner or you'll get mccain pizza and rubbery pasta while sitting next to the latest school camp.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same essentially. Get one close to the main building so you are not trudging t...
