“Views, food, spa, th works”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

This place is certainly one of the better establishments I have ever stayed at. With sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, Bannisters offers an intimate experience on the South Coast of NSW.

First lets talk about the rooms:
We stayed in a spa room, and it was well worth the extra coin. There is a privacy screen on your deck so you can easily move around without and prying eyes! The spa fits two adults and gives direct views to the ocean. The bathroom is functional, albeit a little small, and the bed is perfectly comfortable. Full of white and bright colors the place is lit up wonderfully wen you first walk in.

Food:
We only ate breakfast there and it was spot on. A great selection of food, indoor and outdoor seating options, you can easily waste the morning over a coffee whilst enjoying the view.

Facilities:
The hotel has a large in ground infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. Adjacent to it is the bar with a large selection of seating from sun lounges, to beach chairs, large comfortable lounge chairs, and cocktail tables. Whilst there is spa treatment options we did not use then this time around. Free internet is included in the room rate. We also had the hotel run us down to Mollymook and come and get us late that night (we were at a wedding) at no extra cost.

Location:
Well, what can I say. The view is just amazing, the ambiance is of a peaceful location where you are miles from anything remotely offensive. You can walk down to Mollymook beach in approx 15m, allow double that to walk into the town centre and yes it is downhill from the hotel to town.

Cost:
This place is not cheap, however for quality, location, and the atmosphere I think it has great value.

I would go there again anytime, the place and the customer service really is above standard. For a romantic weekend away this is a perfect place to take your loved one.

Room Tip: Spa rooms come with Ocean views. The spa is mounted on the deck outside on your own private balcony...

Have just spent the last two nights at this magical place. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the outlook from all rooms is amazing. The staff in reception, in Rick Steins restaurant and the Pool bar were all friendly and accommodating. It's no cheap but definitely the 'pick of the crop' when it comes to accommodation on the South Coast. Highly recommended!

We travelled as a family of four from Sydney for a weekend away. Bannisters has such a beautiful location. The swimming pool was absolutely breathtaking and so beautiful to lay out and listen to the waves, the pool is freezing as it is winter, but the kids had a quick dip anyways. The pool bar was great too. We ate at Rick Steins one night and it was probably one the best restaurants we have ever been too, the service was impeccable and the food, although relatively small for the price you pay, was absolutely delicious and we talked about it for ages. We had to book 2 ocean deluxe rooms to fit our family and had two adults in one, and the 2 children in another, the rooms were nice and clean with beautiul views over the pool over the ocean. We can not wait to return to Bannisters but we just wish there were more rooming options for families without having to get two rooms or spending lots of money for the ricks house.. Etc. Thankyou to everyone at Bannisters for this incredible time away and we can not wait to return.

We have just arrived home after having a fabulous 3 nights at Bannisters. The food was amazing and the service was excellent! We went to Rick Stein's restaurant one night and we can recommend the Indian seafood curry - his signature dish I believe. The breakfast was great and the staff accommodated us with whatever we asked for. Best cappuccinos ! In the pool bar the food and service was excellent. The rooms were fine - the position was east facing looking over the Ocean - beautiful and very private. We will be back!!! Did you have a fitness centre - I missed out if you did??

Had a wonderful weekend away at Bannisters. Great bed, great view, sensational Restaurant. It rained all weekend so the free DVD's were very much appreciated. A special mention to Mitch in the Restaurant who was one of the best waiters, I've come across, knew his stuff and was happy to share and have a laugh.

Will defiantly be back.

Booked early for a family wedding, they charge at a rate my dad would have called Highway Robbery, but what do you do. The options are not great in this area.

Booked for dinner on the Friday night at Rick Steins.

Wet when we arrived - the carpark was pretty full - but we managed to find space on the upper level.

Room was well appointed but only a motel size, nice little balcony with an ocean view.

Dinner was awesome, as were the breakfasts.

Location is amazing - but the pool area is very small and could get crowded.

Would not race back - there are much better seaside resorts for the same price or less

Ok, if you've read any of the less than happy reviews about this place, you'll know by now that this is not a glamourous, purpose built 5* hotel, it's a posh motel.
BUT
It really is in a fabulous location, with stunning views and lots of 5* attention to detail.

We had a corner suite and it was lovely, with incredible views over the ocean.
Our room had a huge gorgeous roman bath the size of a double bed with views out across the ocean.
The shower however was a big rain shower above this bath, and with such little water pressure it was basically useless.

The lounge area featured a cosy gas fire which was romantic and super cosy for winter, (the room also heating via reverse cycle air con if required).

All the usual robes, slippers and toiletries were given, and the mini bar was full of all sorts of nice (expensive) things to eat and drink; plus it was big enough to fill up with your own wine/nibbles if you wanted which was a nice touch.

Downsides?

Ok, yes a few.

This suite is expensive, in peak season it's very expensive and I'm not sure that it's quite up to the prices being charged.

The rooms are all non-smoking, but smoking is permitted on some of the balconies (which were all the ones near to us) and we could not open our windows and let in the fresh ocean breezes because every time we did so huge wafts of cigarette smoke filled the room. Not so much of an issue in winter, just keep the windows closed, but in summer it could be a real problem.
The room next to us was accessible by an internal door, and this allowed us to hear the heavy smokers in there coughing their lungs up all morning, and watching TV all evening.

The corner suite's bedroom was above the pool bar, which was rather dormant in winter but I imagine it's probably quite lively in the summer and you would hear everything from your room unless you closed all the windows and cranked on the aircon.

So...yes, it's great, but maybe shop for a discounted price and use what you save to upgrade your room!

Room Tip: Worth spending a bit extra on a good room. The corner suites were excellent.

Dear Bella_Ischia,
Thank you for your review of Bannisters and your honest feedback.
Firstly, I am thrilled that you appreciated the ambiance of our clifftop location. Luxury Suite 7 has amazing corner room views to both the north and east that makes it a favourite among many of our guests. We have some great value packages running throughout most of year that include deals with our bar, restaurant and spa. During Mollymook's peak summer holiday season our prices do rise at a usual rate for our region. As you have noted, room 7 is closer to the pool bar than our other suites in order to make the most of the views of the pacific and for this reason we are double glazing the suite this month. We encourage any guests concerned about potential noise to contact us directly when making a booking, we offer a range of rooms to suit every guest and their preferences.

Best regards,
Peter Bacon
