“A very good low cost motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

We paid $A90 for one night's accommodation at the Merimbula Motor Lodge which is situated at 131 Merimbula Drive and only 1-2 minutes drive from the business centre of Merimbula. Our welcome was warm and helpful except for the advice regarding a good place to dine, and I will return to that advice. The motel is located in an attractive and lush bush setting with a view of the distant sea and many bird visitors at dawn. Accommodation is in modern brick cabins with parking close to each cabin (see photograph). Our room was clean, quiet, and attractively and adequately furnished for the price that we paid. The bed was comfortable and the room was air conditioned. Television reception was excellent. Two comfortable club chairs and table were provided for viewing television and eating breakfast. We would stay at this motel again. Our friendly hosts advised us that the restaurant of our choice was closed on Wednesday nights and suggested that we dine at the local RSL. We are both members of the Waverley RSL which offers excellent meals at very good prices so we did not hesitate to accept this advice. Alas, the Merimbula RSL did not match the standards of our own local RSL. My wife found her meal inedible. My fish was covered in heavy batter and the chips beneath it were soggy and unappetising. I recommend that visitors consult Tripadvisor's very useful reviews of restaurants before choosing a place to eat at Merimbula. A warning to interstate visitors - it was difficult to find a service station in Merimbula (and New South Wales generally) that sold unleaded 91 petrol without added 10 percent ethanol. If your fuel is running low, think twice before passing service stations that sell unleaded petrol without that added 10 percent of ethanol. The price signs usually indicate whether or not ethanol has been added.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the arrival and reception area.

I staid 8 nights at this motel and it was very clean and comfortable. I could not fault it in any way.
The rooms are large and there is a kitchen area with cooktop, microwave, toaster, crockery and utensils. There is a laundry for guests and the hosts are very nice. TV, aircon, hot water, bed, all good. I travel often and this motel is great value for money.

We stayed here two nights en route from Sydney/Melbourne. It is part of a larger group I believe and is managed. The rooms were large and well equipped, each having an outside picnic table. There was a swimming pool, although when we visited there were some leaves etc at the bottom. There was a laundry and drying area, in addition to a BBQ. Its a little outside Merimbula but is on the main road. The manager seemed OK, but was not very forthcoming. It was however, good value for money.

Stayed for 2 nights in the off season. This property is the first one on the left as you come off the main highway towards town from the north. It is only a minute or two drive into town, but is really too far to comfortably walk.

This is not a conventionally designed motel with a long building containing many units, but has 2 or 3 units in several smaller buildings spread throughout the property, which along with the semi rural site on the ridge above town, gives it an informal, comfortable and relaxed feel.

The motel has a BBQ area and pool in the rear of the property. While there is no restaurant, I think you can get limited room service, and the units have a small kitchenette for self catering.

While the rooms themselves are not very big, they are well designed, comfortably appointed, clean, and have Air Con, Kitchenette, TV with 2 movie channels, and a DVD player.

This is a budget motel, and as such it is not fair to rate it against a top end property with all the "bells and whistles" because you will pay a lot more for it. I would not call it no frills either, but limited frills may be more accurate.

However, it is a very good budget motel with good beds, extras such as Air Con, Kitchenettes, Movie channel TV, DVD and a pool, which many motels in this price range may not include.

At the time of this review (Off Season) I paid $70 for a single. There were slightly less expensive motels in the area (not by much though), but none of them could match the Merimbula Motor Lodge for overall value for what I got for my money.

Taking everything into consideration (with particular weight on value for money), I gave this property 5 stars, and would definately return.

The room was very clean and suitable for our one night stopover to Melbourne. The kitchenette was useful. Location was on top of hill a very short distance from the main shopping area. We ordered room service breakfast which gave us a good start to the day. We traveled with a 14 month old who used her own little sofa bed set up next to the main bed. Access back onto Princes Highway was very easy only being a few minutes drive.

Clean unexpensive accomodation (with kitchenette, AC, etc.) in a small motel (first one met when driving from Bega), with a very kind welcome.

No restaurant nor pool on premises.

Many other motels nearby, usually larger with more facilities and sometimes displaying better deals (but where there room availables at these rates ?).

Could not fault this motel but room is rather tiny and service offer is limited, so I would recommend taking another one for longer stays.

Thanks for your feedback. One thing did strike us as strange is that we do have a pool and a large one at that. Our pool is located down in the complex and is surrounded by the natural bush setting that surrounds as on two sides. We also offer breakfast to rooms which you may not have known. We do recommend that guest read the compendium information in all rooms which has all the information on our 18 room motel. We pride ourselves on our cleanliness and excellent value for money and strive to make your stay the most enjoyable possible.
