“Comfort Inns are not the same-however the bed was comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2010

One night stop over to break the drive back home, decided to stay at Comfort Inn after a wonderful experience the previous night in Lakes entrance. We quickly learned that all Comfort Inn’s are not the same and our room was quite different and older in decoration. Room had a queen-sized bed, which was comfortable for the night. Service was ok, did not have breakfast. We found the staff to be pleasant also.

This motel is tired and in need of a major makeover. On arrival the reception staff was friendly and we were made very welcome. Our room had a smell of air freshener or disinfectant, most unpleasant, but we got used to it. Most of the furniture and fittings were past their use by date. The advertised pool was closed for maintenance, and the restaurant was closed in the evening, no explaination given. The restaurant was open for breakfast, but we decided to give it a miss.

Three of us spent one night at the Comfort Inn on the Coastal Drive from Melbourne to Sydney. We had a family room (12A and 12B) which is 2 adjoining rooms (1 with a double bed, the other with 2 singles) for $125. Two rooms for that price, I guess you can't expect much.

However I would not stay at this hotel again (as a caveat I'm not used to motel style accommodation). Difficult to describe in words - the room was dark with a strange musty odor. The decor is extemely dated (early 1970s) and just the way everything looked you did not want to touch things. Only one of the rooms had air conditioning and a hair dryer that worked. The rooms had ants especially in the bathroom.

Options for accommodation in Merimbula are limited so if you are just looking for a place to sleep, this is fine. However this is not the type of room for a holiday or vacation. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the proximity to town center is also a plus.
Free internet access did not work in our room, however it was available in the lobby.

Stayed one night while driving the coast road between Sydney and Melbourne. Couldnt fault it. The owners couldnt do enough to help, Had groung floor room looking out to distant sea. The swimming pool was very pleasant. Breakfast was not included in room price. Unusually for this type of accommodation you chose from a menu and paid individually for each item which was cooked fresh, very good it was too. If you are in the area and need a place to stay this may be the one.

  • Liked — The help from owners
  • Disliked — Having to ask for duvet, which I got, instead of blankets

Stayed here on business overnight, the rooms were very neat and tidy and didn't have that 1970s decor seen so frequently around australia. Rooms have a great views, are quiet and very comfortable.

The staff at the counter were really nice, even at the end of a long day they were really polite and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast in the morning was extremely well priced and tasty - I recommend the fresh fruit salad if its in season.

Cab ride from Merimbula airfield was $12.50 AU which was good value. Merimbula is a beautiful friendly place - If you're in town on business or for an overnighter this hotel is great.

We stayed 2 days at the motel on 7th and 8th March. It is just 2 minutes walk from the mainstreet and 3 minutes drive from the Town beach and 5 minutes to Short Point Beach. It is also a few minutes drive from the Boardwalk which every visitor should walk- just beautiful. The Motel room was spotless, ours was on the first floor with a sea view. the room was fairly big with A/c Fridge, TV etc The couple running the hotel were very friendly in a very genuine way. You could see they love meeting people and giving good service. We had a cooked breakfast as part of the deal and this included juice, yoghurt, a very tasty fresh fruit platter and bacon, eggs and sausages - It kept us going till mid afternoon. Good DVD Library free. I had read the reviews here before booking so I expected it to be good and I wasn't disappointed. Merimbula was beautiful and it is a good base to visit Eden, just 25 mins away, The Whale Museum there is worth a visit and We spent the afternoon on Boyd's beach just a couple of miles outside Eden without seeing another human being.
Would recommend this motel with no reservations, just sorry we hadn't more time to stay there.

  • Liked — The Couple, Lee and his wife ( whose name we never got) who run it. Absolute gems!!
  • Disliked — Would have liked more TV channels but got good free DVDs instead

OK, the Comfort Inn was never going to be the highlight of our honeymoon but it was clean, the staff were friendly enough, there's a reasonable DVD library and free internet access. Most importantly, the hotel is within 5 minutes' walk of the town centre.

If you're looking for a place to eat, head straight for the Waterfront Cafe. The food is really excellent - modern Australian tapas - and great VFM for dinner or brunch.
