My husband and I frequent this Hibachi, but we've noticed in the past year or so, the restaurant is going downhill. Tonight was no exception. The restaurant was half empty but we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. The decor in the restaurant at first blush looks nice, but after looking more closely, the place could use a makeover. The fish pond in the lobby is cloudy and looks terrible. Carpets are stained and frayed. Wood trim around the restaurant is chipping and needs to be painted. Ceiling tiles are blackened from all the smoke from the tableside cooking. Our food was good, but that's only because of our chef, Mr. toyota. He gets a 5-star rating from us, and he is our favorite chef at this restaurant. In prior years, we used to be able to request Toyota as our chef, but the management no longer will accommodate our requests. Isn't that why you go to a restaurant in the first place... for the food the chef cooks? Granted, all the food is the same, but each chef adds their own little touches. Plus Mr. toyota is speedy behind the grill. Some chefs are way too slow at this Hibachi. I think its time for us to find a new restaurant. Guess we should have gone to Henry's Chinese restaurant on Krewstown Road in NE Philly tonight. Now they have great food, although their decor could use a facelift too. Lastly, Hibachi is pretty pricy. We try to go only when we have a Buy One Get One Free coupon. That's a nice savings of $25.
