“Very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We stay in one of the studio 3 for a long week end in October, the place was clean, well equipped and has a very nice setting.
The location is great , central and close to the ocean.
It's a little pricey and can be noisy because the pub's outdoor area is right in front.
They should move or close the outdoor area a bit earlier to make this place even better.

We booked this on Wotif so it was only $100 therefore I had a different view to those reviews from people who paid the full price of $200.

We got there and there was only a fitted and flat sheet on the bed - literally. So I got the two big blankets out of the cupboard straight away!

The blankets really didn't do enough and it's such a shame the owners haven't put doonas out. They'd get much much better reviews I reckon if they did this one thing!

If u stay here I'd stay in number one. It's the closet to the road so good for unpacking and packing, but if it's a weekend maybe one of the later ones cos of the closeness to the hotel.

Apart from the fact it was cold it was good - full size fridge, nice couch and bed, good to have a full kitchen (no mugs only teacups tho).

The heater is very noisy and is an old split system do doesn't seem to turn off when it reaches the temperature and then turn back on. So the doonas would have helped.

If the owners put in nice shampoo, conditioner and soap (the stuff looked pretty crap) which wouldnt cost the earth, and doonas, this place would be closer to worth full price. As it is, bring ur own toiletries, and doona, and buy on wotif!

Stayed overnight on a Saturday night in Studio 1. Heater was too noisy to leave on overnight and room was freezing without it. No electric blankets or adequate blankets for bed.
Shampoo and conditioner in bathroom but no soap.
Noise from outdoor area of pub next door made it difficult to get to sleep and to top it all off, a patron leaving the pub decided to "key" (sctratch) my car parked on the street outside. Never again!!

Room Tip: All rooms suufer noise from pub. I'd say avoid staying here if you can.

We stayed overnight on a Saturday in Studio 6. The apartment was nice enough and fitted out well but is not in a great location. It is behind the Grand Hotel pub which was noisy but would be fine if you weren't trying to sleep early (we have a 2 year old son). It is also very close to the train tracks but this wasn't a problem. The main problem was a lack of warm bedding - there was only a sheet on the bed but the night would have dropped below 15 degrees. We got out all the blankets in the cupboard and wore jumpers to bed. Luckily we had brought bedding for our child or we would have all been cold. For $200 a night, we expect to at least be warm. I recommend taking your own doona if you go out of summer time!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

We stayed at the Grand Studios on a recent family trip to Kiama. We booked Studio 6 which is a 2-bedroom self-contained unit. This was our first stay there and will definitely be our last!
We arrived about 20 minutes prior to the check-in time of 2.00pm and were given our key by the barmaid in the adjacent hotel. After travelling 3 hours by car we were all looking forward to getting settled into our room, only to find that it hadn't been cleaned since the previous occupants had left. There were dirty dishes in the sink, rubbish and dirty towels on the floor and general mess. We promptly informed the barmaid about the condition of the room who thought it was quite amusing, and laughed as she told us that she'd get the cleaner to attend to the room ASAP. After returning to the room an hour later, we found the cleaner was still in the process of cleaning the room and we finally checked in at 3.00pm.
The apartment itself wasn't too bad. The 2 bedrooms were very basic (no wardrobes), the kitchen, bathroom and laundry were sufficient and the lounge/dining was a little cramped. The reception on the TV dropped in and out quite a bit and the air-conditioning was very noisy. The best thing about the unit was the surprisingly good water pressure in the shower!
Unfortunately the location of the Grand Studios was a huge let down. Located directly across the road from Kiama Train Station, meant that we had to endure the noise of the trains at all hours, actually waking my children up multiple times during the night. The pub next door was also extremely noisy with patrons yelling and music playing until around 1.30am on a week night. So we didn't get a good nights sleep at all!
Parking was also another issue. The street parking is a 2 hour limit during the day, however, the cleaner said that we could park around the back of the units. This was ok when there was only 1 car, but got very tight when there were a few cars parked there, making it difficult to get out.
We paid $200 per night for this unit which I believe was extremely pricey for what we got. We definitely won't be returning to the Grand Studios!
