“Cool place..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

It depends what you're after with this hostel. Make sure you check which YHA to start with, as there are two in Byron Bay.

I really enjoyed our stay here, the owners were so welcoming and friendly, it has a real home from home feel. We had a 6 bed room but had it to ourselves (this kept happening in June, must have been a quiet spell!) I agree the lack of lockers isn't ideal, but I padlock my valuable inside my big bag and the rest come out with me, so I normally feel contented with that. The room itself was ok, we had a double bed upstairs with 2 bunks in a room below us, was like a private, quite cute how they've converted it.

The kitchen wasn't huge but fine for what we needed and clean- I can imagine in summer when it's fully booked it would get really busy, but we had no issues. other guests wre so friendly here, all chatting over breakfast, was really nice :)
The bathrooms I thought were fine, only thing I personally find annoying is having to take my own towel to dry my hands after washing them every time, but this is the same in most OZ hostels to be fair. I'll agree though, why choose to clean them at the busiest times of day? I had to dodge the cleaner everytime I wanted the bathrooms or to shower, bit tedious.

Social areas were cool- lots of useful info and free stuff to rent, plus a movie room which was cosy (it was so cold at night in June, we all huddled in here because of the heating, our bedroom was freezing)

I've stayed in Byron before at Nomads, and I'd definately come back to Cape Byron instead. Great place for a couple or individual who wants a smaller more homely environment- Nomads if you're on you're wanting a 24hr party. Didn't sleep a wink when we spent 4 nights there 2 years back, utter mayhem!

I stayed here for two nights in Sept '12. I paid $28/night for a 5 share room. The rooms itself were average. The bathrooms were shared but I never had a problem waiting for a shower or toilet. The one thing that is kind of annoying with the rooms is that they all face out on to a courtyard/common area so if it's loud you might have difficulty falling asleep. Service was friendly, did a tour to Nimbin through the hostel, price was $25 I believe. Anyway, I would recommend this place.

loved this laid back hostel! The staff were so friendly and helpful. An awesome place to make friends. very chilled out atmosphere! rooms clean and spacious no lockers though, (only downfall). Massive tv room & location is close to everything.

Have stayed in many hostel's throughout New Zealand and Australia. The YHA was old, small kitchen, damp rooms. Had a double room but was very noisy. Shared bathrooms were unclean. Fits in perfectly with Byron's hippie vibe, but maybe slightly too laid back. Great location though.

Located near Byron Bay’s center, featuring a nice swimming pool, a well equipped kitchen with a lot of refrigerated storage space and few more common areas as well as free bicycles (first come – first serve so come early!).
The shared showers seemed like they have been recently renovated, clean with high water pressure and enough hangers in each shower.
The friendly staff took care of everything we needed, overall we felt the cost per night was cheap for what we got.
There are only few en-suite rooms so pre-book those early, also this is the ideal place to stay in case you plan to go diving with Sundive(Recommended!)
To summarize it, the Byron Bay YHA is a reasonably priced pleasant and comfortable place to stay in!

The price for a 5 bed dorm was 28$ which is okay, but the rooms are too small.they seem to chuck a single bed into every room even if their is not much space left just to make a bit more money of that.no space for backpacks,no aircon, just fan.the bathroom was pretty good looked new and was probably renovated not long ago.the kitchen is alright, just too small for many ppl and cooking is not fun at all.more important it was cleaned twice a day.
The pool is huge and nice but the beach is just around the corner so we prefered to go there.

The best thing is the free bike hire...never had that b4.

The most anoying thing:kitchen closes at 10pm.all comon area is closed by 11pm.after that you can either go to bed or leave the hostel...even if there was a good movie on, no pardon.

Staff:they upgrated us into a kinda private room with double bed for the same price.we appreciated that.their mood is quiete mixed, very nice and helpful on One side but sometimes unfriendly and not cheerful.

Unfortunatey they do not offer any entertainment but on the other side there's plenty to do in byron.

I would recommend this hostel if you wanna relax and no party in night time.i would stay there again, havent experienced any other hostel in town.

I loved cape Byron YHA it was clean, everyone was really friendly, the room sizes are very good, kitchen facilities were excellent, the pool was very nice to take a plunge the one thing this hostel is missing is wireless internet it is abit of a pain with them only having 3 computers but other than that i would defiantly stay here again.
