“Sleepless nights and unhelpful management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011

Let me start off by saying Byron Bay is an amazing place to visit and the location of this hotel was very close to everything. It started off well but went downhill pretty quickly.Although there was a 10pm noise and visitor curfew this was never enfoced by the management, we spent 3 nights listening to loud music, yelling, screaming, items being thrown off balconies and although complaints were made by us and other rooms nothing was ever done. Needless to say we decided to leave early and it left a real downer on our trip.

We found Byron Bay Side Self Contained Motel Great value for money accommodation in Byron Bay . This excellent 3 star hotel has a nice central location, self contained accommodations, and affordable rates. The hotel’s location provides access to most everything within walking distance. I had a massage and a beauty treatment at the on site beautician and had my hair styled at the onsite hairdresser (there were even 2 hairdresser's to choose from ). We enjoyed eating at the vegetarian cafe onsite. I liked having the convenience of the motel's wireless internet and the free onsite parking. You can stroll along or surf the waters at Main Beach just steps away, and walk farther on to the scenic spot of Cape Byron Lighthouse before visiting Crystal Castle. Guests can also do some whale watching, kayaking, or take a scuba diving lesson.

Before I start on the downside, let me say: the location is wonderful if you want to stay in the heart of Byron Bay (though having done that once, I can't imagine wanting to do it again!) and the staff could not be more friendly or helpful. The negatives of this review are in no way due to them. It's simply the problem that budget accommodation in Byron Bay will attract the lowest sorts of hotel guests. We simply did not get a decent night's sleep in the time we spent here. I booked and prepaid (non-refundable) a week's accommodation, but fled after four nights (would have left after three but for torrential rain and long-weekend traffic), leaving three prepaid nights behind, just in order to escape this hell-hole. Yes, you can dial 9 to have the hotel staff ask noisy rooms to quieten down, which I did twice (including once at 4.30am!), but that doesn't help with the slamming doors, screeching teenage girls and drunkenly roaring louts who wake you up on their way to their rooms throughout the night almost on the hour (assuming you've managed to get to sleep from the disturbance before). I was staying with my own teenage son, and even though he's a lot more resilient than I am when it comes to sleep deprivation and even though he loved the surfing here, he was keen to leave early as well, because he had just reached a point where couldn't deal with the broken sleep any more. Sorry, no, I could not in any way recommend this as a place to stay unless you are a noisy teenager looking to party.

All you could want. The staff were helpful and gave us all the information that we needed
to enjoy Byron Bay. Beach, surf boarding, kyaking with dolphins, hang gliding, tours into
the hinterland, night entertainment, beach walking and to the lighthouse, diving the
great marine reserve. The motel was fully self contained with a kichen and washing machine and dryer. The aparments are clean and the beds comforable.Almost every room had a large balcony and the 2 that didn't had air conditioners. The water is good for swimming all year and this motel is very close to main beach.

Surfers Paradise

Have been coming to this motel for some years now because Byron Bay is just 1 hour's
drive from Surfer's Paradise.
Prefer this centrally located motel because not only are we near beach and the shops
and restaurants and we don't need a car but Byron Bay is so much a more relaxing and
pleasant place than the Gold Coast. Also don't have to worry about our car because it
it parked in the locked basement at night.
We like to come on the weekend because there is a lot of entertainment for us to enjoy
and people to meet. The town is busier at the weekend and occasionally people can
make a noise or be inconsiderate but the reception of the motel asks us to sign the
registration when we arrive and agree not to disturb other guests. This works well because if someone does disturb us we just ring the reception and the managers come
up and ask the people to be quiet or leave because they have a no noise policy after
10pm at night. They also ask people not to sit out on the balconies after 10pm so
that noise does not carry into the units of people that want to sleep and don't go out at
night.
Byron Bay is quieter during the week and if people want really quiet then they probly should visit during the week. My parents stay during the week as the town is really
quiet Sunday through to Thursday night. but my friends and I like to stay on weekends.
We just love the cool ocean breeze and the lovely days on the beach and a comfortable central location. Would recommend this motel and Byron Bay anytime.

The second time that we have stayed at this motel, which is not too expensive by Byron's standards and close to the beach and the main street.

There was no microwave oven or air conditioning in our room, which was different last time. But the main problem was that we hardly got any sleep. Both nights that we stayed, guests in neighbouring rooms woke us up at all hours of the night. On Friday it sounded like a domestic, while Saturday it was Metallica at 4am. It was like the ocker version of the Jersey Shore. We won't be back.

My husband & I loved the location.
Opposite a nature reserve, we had a lovely balcony where we could relax after the day spent on the beautiful Byron Bay beaches. We went for the weekly rate which was very reasonable. After busy travelling this hotel was a gem.
All the apartments had their own kitchen and the washing machine and dryer was really convenient. We were tired after our busy travels so spending the week relaxing at this lovely convenient hotel was just the thing.
We loved the restaurant downstairs. The food was superb. So we had the choice cook our own or eat at the vegetarian restaurant or do the take away.
Just a short stroll to Main Beach, the shops and transport.
Everything was just so convenient. There was good high speed wireless internet .
We had to spend the week because Byron Bay as well as being unique it is such a wonderful place to relax and get all your energies back and the beaches and rainforest are wonderful and there are so many things to do.
The water is a lovely temperature allowing swimming all through the year.
The sand is so white. Wonderful, wonderful.
And the hotel, it was fantastic, the best.
