“Great location, everything you need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

found this place through the Byron Bay visitors website when I was looking for something that wasn't a youth hostel, but still didn't break the budget - Barbara's is perfect; really well kept, comfy rooms and a well equipped kitchen with a lovely communal area out the back. Its also in a really handy location; 5-10min walk to town/beach. Only possible negative is the one smallish communal bathroom - wasn't a problem as we were there in winter and had the place to ourselves, but I imagine it might be a bit busier in the summer. Not a problem if you have the en suite/studio though!

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Barbara's and yes please try and book ahead if you would like the privacy of the Studio apartment as its a popular choice in the Guesthouse. The convenience of a short walk to the shops and the beach is certainly a bonus for all of us.

We called into Byron on our way down the coast and stayed for 2 nights. Just loved the feel of Barbara's, felt like we were staying with friends. We stayed in the ensuite room, beautiful comfy bed and squeaky clean bathroom. Loved that it was only a walk to beach, restaurants etc. As I said in the Visitor's Book, we will be back !!! Many thanks.

I booked a 1 night stay via Wotif only to be called & informed that the property was sold out & wouldn't accept my 1 night booking as there was meant to be a 4 night minimum since it was a special event weekend(this was restriction was not on Wotif). After investigating I found on another website rooms still available (not sold out) now with a new 4 night restriction (this had changed since the last time I checked). Very disappointed that the guest house has cancelled my booking due to their mistake! Would not recommend booking here over any peak dates/holidays as they may cancel your booking and leave you high and dry if someone wants to pay more. Very unhappy!

The Guesthouse has had a 4 day minimum for this event for a number of mths and consequently Guests have already booked with us for this period.Unfortunately the Channel Manager allowed your booking through and as soon as it was discovered Wotif was contacted as well as 4 phone calls to your mobile(with messages left on your message bank),to try and resolve your booking issue followed by a text message to no avail. We sourced alternative superior accommodation (which was booked and paid for) so im sorry you feel you had received 'bad service'.We hope you enjoy your one night at Splendour in the Grass.

A friend recommended this place to me 12 years ago and it's my favourite place to stay in Australia! I love that the house is hidden away on a quiet street but only a couple of minutes from the high street and the markets. The beach is 10 mins walk away.

The house is immaculate and has everything you need.

We stayed at Barbara's for 5 nights and had a beautiful time. We stayed in the double room with the shared bathroom and had everything anyone could need for our time in Byron. The accommodation was clean and pleasant and the interaction with other guests was nice. As young UNI Students the accommodation was affordable and practical as it was so close to town and the beach.

I've stayed at Barbara's twice and will definitely return. An oasis of calm only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Byron bay, Barbara's is beautifully maintained with great facilities; clean, comfortable and stylish. Nothing is too much trouble for hosts Ginny and Rick who maintain a friendly but very discreet presence. A perfect place to stay with or without a car. Love that day bed! Highly recommended

Room Tip: The studio is my first choice..completely self contained but don't be put off if its not availab...

We booked into this accommodation ''the Queen Studio' for two nights...On arriving at the property we parked up and took ourselves off round the back through the garden. There was a message board with our name booked against the accommodation for us and the keys were in the door.....The folks (Virginia and Rick) that own the property don't live on site, but that is not an issue......We made ourselves at home and unpacked, meeting Virginia an hour later.....access to the studio was through the communal kitchen, but there is access from the front verandah and an outside door to the side onto the drive. We didn't need a key for private access, but it was available if we had requested it........The room whilst not very wide runs the length of the house, so space is good.....The bedroom at the end has the bed and a storage rack.....The kitchen, dining, seating area consumes the middle section and at the other end is the ensuite bathroom, which has a very low bath./shower......it was very much of rustic appearance, but was ok.....We had access to the kitchen amenities even though we had a microwave, kettle, toaster in our own studio......It was good to do some cooking in the communal area to meet other guests....everyone was good, thoughtful and tidied up after themselves. A very clean accommodation. Out on the back verandah there is a decked area with a bench swing , herb gardens and an outside shower behind the bamboo fencing, for getting off the sand before entering the property....This property is in an excellent location, within walking distance to the main shopping area, cafes, etc....

Room Tip: Book the Queen Studio if you want personal privacey and space.....
