I booked accommodation here for my boss for a business trip recently for a two-night stay. As I'm more...savvy...with computers, I'm uploading her review.

She found the facilities fantastic, as you can see from the pictures. The staff were wonderful and she felt very welcomed and "at home" the entire time.

The setting and town itself were delightful, with much exploring taking place. Will definitely be back for a leisure stay in time to come.

Happened on the Carrington by chance on my way back to Melbourne from Sydney. Stayed for two nights and thoroughly satisfied with the excellence of a) the service from Edwina in reception, b) the condition of the room (spacious, clean, comfortable, warm, and all amenities in first-rate condition). Everything I needed for a welcome break. Highly recommend for any occasion! Perfect location, the grounds too are breathtaking.

We had high expectations for our stay, based on the Carrington's reputation when we lived near Canberra. Things have obviously changed since then.
When we arrived reception was locked even though we arrived before 7PM. Edwina arrived very soon after our phone call and was very pleasant and helpful. However it was a real disappointment to find that the restaurant was closed. Searching the town for a place to have a meal on the chilly night was not what we had anticipated.
The room itself was clean and comfortable, but a little tired and chilly as we could not get the air-conditioner to adequately warm the place, and compounding the problem the door no longer adequately fit the frame leaving a gap at the top through which the chill came.
The included breakfast for each of us was a carton of UHT milk, a carton of Just Rite and a small Yoghurt together with a frozen fruit muffin. (Presumably as a result of the closed restaurant.)
As a romantic getaway it was disaster, saved only by Edwina in reception who did try to alleviate our disappointment next morning.

Dear Criamora,

I’m so sorry to read that your stay wasn't up to your expectation. It is true that our flagship restaurant is closed for refurbishment but we have made arrangements for other good restaurants within a block of the Inn, to look after our guests as we would ourselves.

If you can contact me, I would like to offer you a complimentary visit, to see if we can give you a better experience of the Carrington Inn to hold in your memory.

All the best, Richard, Owner.

Onky stayed here the one night but it was ok, certainly better than I was expecting. My room was big - possibly too big as the tv seemed a bit far away from the bed. There was a kind if a "kitchen" area but it only had a microwave and no other cooking facilities. The bathroom was fairly snall with the mirror and basin tucked into the corner making it awkward to stand there doing makeup or hair as there was also a wooden shelf on the side wall that cut the space down considerably. One of my colleagues had a room with a spa bath and I would have preferred that configuration as the bathroom was much bugger and the mirror and vanity more accessible.

There seemed to a bit of inconsistency between supplies in the different rooms. My room didn't have a spare blanket, which my colleagues in other rooms had and one of my colleagues complained he didn't have any toiletries in his bathroom

The bed was ok, pillows so so. Room overall was clean but a bit dark. I didn't mind the place at all though. Think the owners are trying to do their best

I was there with friends for a single night. Rooms were clean and neat, everything you would expect in a good motel. Edwina in reception was very helpful and did not worry when we booked in early, the rooms were ready. Heating had been upgraded and beds were warm and comfortable. It was a rainy weekend and the grounds were wet and being covered with autumn leaves. The location was perfect, just across the road from the Woodworks and Cafe and near other shops that were great for browsing. We ate at the local George Hotel, a short walk away.
I did not read other reviews until afterwards and was surprised at the negativity. The new owners have done a great job, a work still in progress. It will be great when their own restaurant is up and running again.

The new owners have done well to resurrect the flagging reputation of the Carrington. Much has been done to improve the rooms and ours was cosy, clean and comfortable with recently refurbished inclusions. The staff are knowledgable, pleasant and helpful once again (our second stay in 3 months), and we will be making the Carrington our base for future excusions to the area. We have no hestitation in recommmending the Carrington. Tony Gossan 5/5/2013

I agreed to the Carrington as a wedding venue from the other side of the world, so I had to bite my lip a bit on arrival. Bungendore is a small old town with a few interesting places to wander to and the Carrington a large motel in the middle of it. Their setting is lovely, and they have a purpose built venue for larger groups (ours was a party of 90 in October 2011) which works well. Sadly the ambitious menus are not well executed for large parties, and this is disappointing when they have a fantastic venue to hold the event in 'the Cottage'. I felt we had to do a fair amount of compromising, even down to the alcohol licence which meant they stopped serving our guests at 10pm (read 9.30 in reality) - this was advised in advance. The desserts were bought in flavourless rubbish - how hard is it to get a home made apple pie together, really? Main meal was passable, and all on time but not as good as the price tag suggested. Service was good; they had enough people to keep people fed and watered most of the time, and the staff were pleasant and professional.

Our room was spacious - basically a wooden cabin with a large bathroom, very dark and leading off the car park in normal motel style. This was 'free' with our wedding but is best described as 'convenient' rather than romantic. I don't think anyone had issues with the rooms, just the prices. Most guests were underwhelmed with the grounds, which, although rustic, could have done with a good tidy up given that they knew 18 months in advance we would be there that day! I hope other wedding parties fared better; wheelbarrow full of garden rubbish was a little more 'ordinary' than expected. A visit 6 months earlier had shown us the garden in wintertime, when a gardener was due to do all sorts of lovely things...I think this may have been a wish rather than a plan.

If the new owners can revitalise this as an excellent motel and downscale their ambitious menus accordingly, I think a good time can be had by anyone staying for a short break. Just don't book a wedding without trying everything before you put down that deposit!
PS we were meant to get an anniversary dinner 1 year on, which never happened. Perhaps this is due to new ownership?

Initially a coaching inn for travellers on the Cobb & Co route the Carrington has in its century and a half existence, also been a general store and a private residence. In the 1980's it was lovingly restored as the Inn's warm and hospitable dining restaurant and the cornerstone to our good conference and accommodation facilities on the five acre property. We are very proud to offer the Carrington to you as a homely place to celebrate, relax, unwind, or stay. Our specialty is to cater for meetings and celebrations of between 15 and 60 people. The Carrington Inn environment is perfect for events where it is important to stay focused and not distracted by external noise, intrusiveness, or unpleasantness. It's a small town and easy to get around on foot, while being welcomed everywhere you go. The Carrington Inn is just 35 minutes by car from Parliament House and 30 minutes from Canberra International Airport. It is beautifully located so as to enjoy the museums and culture of our national capital, the wineries and crafts of the region, while having a base that is comfortable, safe and hospitable. It is the perfect staging post for adventures in the cool climate wine country of the Southern Tablelands, or trips to the coast (90 minutes - East), or the snow (3 hours - South). The Carrington Inn has 26 well-appointed rooms each with kitchenette, air conditioning, flat screen television, phone, and WiFi. Many of our rooms have private gardens and some have relaxing spa baths. Off-street parking is free. All our buildings and gardens support disabled access.
