“A clean room that is very homely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

We recently stayed here. Initially we read the comments on this site and were a little worried. In fact it was quite the opposite. It was a very clean hotel in a quiet setting. The rooms were early 80's in their style however were very homely. The manager at the desk was also very friendly.

I am surprised at all the comments below - I am glad I didn't read them before I booked. We got a cheap $99 on wotif.com & after a long drive from Melbourne to Bungendore, the Carrington Inn was fine with us, for the one night stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly man at Reception & were explained what there was to eat & see whilst in Bungendore (for a small town & not much to do, he made it sound a bit more exciting) The room was clean, comfortable & tidy. A rustic old look, which was a nice change, to the normally "modern," rooms you'd find elsewear. We were happy with the services & would stay there again if need be.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms would be the same. We had a room at the back, which was nice.

having tried to book online via their own website and having no success, we phoned and left a message. We wanted accommodation Tuesday 11 October. We decided to drive to Bungendore only upon arrival there was no one at the Inn. No one responded to our telephone call, the website said nothing about closed up midweek.
Definitely would not attempt to stay here in future, which is a shame, because Bungendore is a nice country town.
Overall a very unsatisfactory experience. Drove to Yass to find a decent hotel.

Having read other reviews that were not so positive we were hesitant to book the Carrington Inn but being a long weekend it was difficult to find accomodation for one night only so thought we would take a chance...on their website we found a special $99 website rate for a queen room for one night. We contacted the hotel after booking to advise we would not be arriving before reception closed - the hotel kindly made alternative arrangements for us and even called us on the day to confirm these. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised the room was large & even contained a kitchenette. Being in a small town we did not expect it to be so nice - it was in a central location, the bed was extremely comfortable and had all the little things to make our stay more comfortable (hairdryer, fridge, tv, lounge, seperate ensuite). The Inn is just outside Canberra set amognst land and a small 'country' town. Upon checkout the staff were more than friendly & we have no hesitation in recommending The Carrington Inn to travellers.

Room Tip: Check The Carrington Inn's website - prices when we booked were cheaper than even those on disco...

The restaurant was truly terrible. My partner and I are quite willing to 'splash' out on high end dining. However, I truly object to paying high end prices for miniscule, pathetic food. Clearly the Carrington Inn wants to be something it's not. My partner ordered the ravioli entree, which was two tiny pieces and my food was little better. There was a snooty atmosphere and the service was lacklustre to say the least. Avoid at all costs. Rustic homestead dining can be done much better elsewhere in the Canberra region, for less money (e.g. Grazings, Poachers' Pantry etc).

Having booked a dinner, bed & breakfast package on arrival we found the reception 'closed'. We were requested to attend the restaurant. On arrival here it took 10 minutes for us to be observed. We were advised that breakfast would be at a nearby cafe not in front of the open fire which bought us here in the 1st instance. The bar wasn’t open when we arrived before dinner. Dinner was average. A very disappointing experience.

We checked in for the long weekend, arrived at 9.10pm on Friday night, to be told we booked room only so that was all we were going to get, how about breakfast I asked? to be told they are plenty of cafe's around town try one of them, How about Dinner on Saturday Night? to be told they are very busy on Saturday night so we would have to check with Reception in the morning. My Husband and I went to the room and said to each other that they were not getting any more money from us.
If I had not paid for the room on line I would have left and found somewhere else to stay. The room we stayed in was a spar room, the room was just ok, neither TV had a remote control, there was no where to put your bag, and only 4 hangers in the cupboard, there was a kettle and some plates etc.
We had to walk down a walkway to our room, as you cannot park in front of your room or close.
First impressions are the most important and yours was very poor.

Room Tip: How far is parking from the room?

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Established in 1885, The Carrington Inn has enjoyed a colourful and adventurous life. Initially a coaching inn for travellers on the Cobb & Co route the Carrington has in its century and a half existence, also been a general store and a private residence. In the 1980's it was lovingly restored as the Inn's warm and hospitable dining restaurant and the cornerstone to our good conference and accommodation facilities on the five acre property. We are very proud to offer the Carrington to you as a homely place to celebrate, relax, unwind, or stay. Our specialty is to cater for meetings and celebrations of between 15 and 60 people. The Carrington Inn environment is perfect for events where it is important to stay focused and not distracted by external noise, intrusiveness, or unpleasantness. The Inn is a foundation piece of Bungendore, a thriving country town with good food, boutique shops, arts, crafts, and Australian heritage. It's a small town and easy to get around on foot, while being welcomed everywhere you go. The Carrington Inn is just 35 minutes by car from Parliament House and 30 minutes from Canberra International Airport. It is beautifully located so as to enjoy the museums and culture of our national capital, the wineries and crafts of the region, while having a base that is comfortable, safe and hospitable. It is the perfect staging post for adventures in the cool climate wine country of the Southern Tablelands, or trips to the coast (90 minutes - East), or the snow (3 hours - South). The Carrington Inn has 26 well-appointed rooms each with kitchenette, air conditioning, flat screen television, phone, and WiFi. Many of our rooms have private gardens and some have relaxing spa baths. Off-street parking is free. All our buildings and gardens support disabled access. PLEASE NOTE: OUR RESTAURANT IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING REFURBISHMENT and is closed. It will reopen with an exciting new menu and decor later in the year. In the meantime, there are other lovely local restaurants and cafes who will treat Carrington Inn guests as we would ourselves. ... more   less
