“A bit tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Stayed here a number of times over the years. The rooms are tired, ours had a radiator that was noisy and one that did not work. I cannot imagine this was new.

Nice location and view across the lake. The meal in the restaurant is really just a flash version of a beer garden and nothing to write home about. So-so value, but it is almost Burradoo - actually ! Well I thought it was Moss Vale, but there you go.

Staff friendly enough. But it really needs some updating in the rooms. Paint chipped n places and carpet worn.

We found out about Briars in the SMH Good Pub Guide while searching for an English style pub with accomdation. It was just perfect and provided a large, warm and clean room with a lovely view over looking the gardens and pond. The accomodation is separate, just across the carpark to the pub. Bowral is a lovely town (a few minute drive into the town from the pub) and a great base for the Southern Highlands.
The restaurant is an order your food at the counter / cook your own steak setup. It had a nice atmosphere and the English style pub was warm and inviting.
Breakfast was included and was all that you needed.
We visited Centennial vineyard which is just out of town and well worth the effort for the views not to mention the wines.
All in all a good place for a quick get away or family get together.

I wanted a quaint accomodation for our small family of 3. Not wanting a B and B this time since there were just 3 of us, I opted for hotel-like accomodation, yet better than motel. Briars had good and quiet surrounds. There was a lovely gazebo, adjacent to a pond, a good spot for reading a book. The room was spacious for a family of 3 (and I suppose still good for 4), with tidy bathrooms and well-vacuumed carpets. On a cold winter day, there was nothing more thoughtful than going to a nicely-heated room. Thanks to the staff for remembering to heat the room for guests. The location was a good base to go around Southern Highlands, easy 25- minute drive to Robertson. It was a 3-5 minute drive from the town centre where the good restaurants and cafes were. I was happy with our stay.

I stopped at Briars Country Lodge and Inn as I was driving through and had no knowledge of the place as I wasn't sure which town I'd stop at that evening. The rooms are large and comfortable, with a small sitting area inside and a smaller sitting area outside overlooking the dam. There is a dressing room off the bathroom. The bathroom has a medium sized relatively shallow bath, good sized vanity, and toilet which is strangely located close to the corner of the bathroom. In the room there is a stereo, bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The price included a cooked breakfast which was a help yourself style and was more than adequate. On site there is a restaurant and there appears to be a conference centre as well. The staff are friendly and helpful. Don't expect to be able to negotiate on price even if it's 8pm and the hotel is half empty! My stay was very comfortable.

I am not including the restaurant in my rating but will comment. Again, the staff are friendly and helpful. The ambience is quite good. I found the prices of both a glass of wine and my meal high for the quality. (I wasn't particularly hungry after a late lunch. One glass of white wine and one entree cost $45.) Next time, I'd try a restaurant in town.

We again had our family reunion at Briars and this time in the Bong Bong Room with the beautiful open log fire. The food was great and service fair. As we were a large group the staff did all they could to make our meal pleasant. I agree with another reviewer that the first time you dine it is not clear what side dishes accompany the ordered meal. When we asked we were shown very pleasantly to the salad/vegie buffet bar and staff even helped with service there as well. This is a rustic setting and level of service at lunch time fits this. Our accommodation for the 2 nights we stayed was warm and most comfortable. This time we did not have any view but understood as they were fully booked and someone has to miss out. Breakfast was good both mornings and the second morning I was able to order poached eggs cooked when I requested them. This was great. We dined on the Sunday evening with local friends we invited and had a wonderful time both with food and service. I would recommend dinner as the most relaxed meal as lunch time can be chaotic. All in all a great weekend. Shame the lounge closes so early at night. 8pm seems rather early and it would have been nice to relax around the open fire.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake if possible and not too far from the restaurant.

Booked 9 rooms for a friends surprise 50th Birthday on a holiday long weekend. The Lodge and Inn were perfect !We booked the Bong Bong room at the Inn and they let us have it for free. They organised a 2 course meal for a reasonable price and the room had an open fire and the staff were terrific. The rooms at the lodge were great,so quiet and the bed was so comfortable. Our rooms all had double opening doors that overlooked the lake ,gazebo and tennis courts and an outside table and chairs for each room,so we were all able to meet on the lawn in the afternoon for drinks and snacks. The breakfast and food at the Inn was great, everything from Lamb shanks,Aged Beef Steaks to Atlantic Salmon. The Inn also has some cosy areas with open fires to have a quiet drink in or a fire pit outside if you are brave enough to face the cold. This place is perfect for groups or couples and the best part is it is all in one place so no need to drive anywhere.

Room Tip: All rooms are ground level opening onto a lawn and lake view

We had a fabulous time at Briars Inn and found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. We booked the Romantic Package for our 20th anniversary and had champagne and chocolates on arrival, two course dinner and buffet breakfast as part of the deal. The internet worked well and the room was clean and tidy. The weather was absolutely freezing, but it was lovely and warm in the room. Dinner was good, but there were limited vegetarian options and no options at all for vegans. Breakfast was a buffet, with plenty of choices. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider staying there again.
