“Very average in many ways.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Contrary to the previous reviewer we thought the Ballina-Byron Tour was very average.
For example we still can't figure why we were to spend two whole hours in Lismore a town that has very little to offer. Thankfully we were able to spend longer in Nimbin at the request of passengers.
There was very little more to see than views from the coach and various stops at large shops selling oils, macadamias, puddings etc. Why not travel an extra 1/2 hour and go to the Currumbin sanctuary instead of Tweed Heads or actually visit the rainforest for a short walk rather than the visitors centre..
The food was dreadful - we had fruit and custard for four of the seven nights and frozen cheese cake for two. Two nights there was sliced ham/corned beef and a variety of tinned vegetables, shredded lettuce and white looking pasta and potato salads and the rest was roasts. Extremely lazy and boring catering. This is 2012 for goodness sake!
All of my group were "seniors" but surely we are allowed to stay up beyond 8pm when all the tables were cleared the entertainment stopped and it was made very obvious that it was "bedtime".
Something appeared to be wrong with the plumbing in two of the rooms we had and there was a bad smell coming from the outlet plug in the shower floor. The pool floor made your feet turn blue as the paint was coming of and there was only one lounge to sit on (at the pool).
Plus's - the breakfasts were really good as were the soups (the "4th course" is tea and coffee) The coach driver/guide was very informative.
The entertainment was fun and a pity that it drowned out all dinner conversation and then packed up at 8pm.
This tour is suitable for senior "seniors" and when the baby boomers start touring a bit more they will really have to lift their game.

Room Tip: I would avoid a room near the restaurant as they bang the cutlery on the table at 6.00am to set for...

Dear Harryhill,

Thank you for spending the time to review our motel tour package. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed our daily buffet breakfasts we offer as part of the Ballina-Byron tour service. We often receive compliments on the range and quality of our hot and cold breakfasts and naturally we enjoy all positive feedback on this.

I am glad to hear that you appreciated the wonderful work of our coach driver Annie. Annie is an asset to our business and her enthusiasm and love of our local region is evident in her tours. Annie will be assisting us to create a new tour itinerary to commence at the beginning of 2015 with similar competitive pricing as our current tour service. We will take on board your feedback in the planning for our next tour destinations. For enquiries or bookings call 1800 028 528 during business hours.

Since our management restructure at the beginning of the year we have addressed previous concerns with maintenance and subsequently our pool has been refurbished and repainted. Unfortunately some equipment can malfunction at the most inappropriate times and while our maintenance staff are capable of rectifying the situation, some instances are out of their control. Rest assured had we known that the facilities in your room weren’t fully functional we would have allocated a different room.

We have also completely overhauled our dinner menu since changing management. We do not repeat any entrées or main meals during any night of the week of the tour and our selection of deserts are quite extensive, varying each and every night except for Friday and Saturday where we showcase a buffet of fresh fruit salads, ice-cream, custard, jelly and a variety of individual cakes that our guests thoroughly enjoy.

I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the entertainment we provide for our tour guests. We do finish dinner service between 8-8:30, however, we encourage our visitors to mingle and enjoy their time together in our garden restaurant for as long as they desire. We provide card and board games, reading material, a pool table and karaoke facilities for guests to do this. We do find that on most week nights most of our guests retreat back to their rooms as they find the tours quite exhaustive and comprehensive and our dinners quite satisfying! However on Friday and Saturday nights we do quite often have a couple of guests who continue to dance to the wonderful music provided by our live entertainers.

Once again thank you for your feedback and hope to enjoy your patronage in the near future.

Kind regards,

John Hobson

Had a great 7 day tour.
Flying to Byron airport, we were picked up by a small bus and were taken to the motel (Ballina Byron Motel). We settled in then went to the dinning room for dinner.
A delicious hot and cold breakfast was served every morning in the Pool Side Restaurant.
A tasty four course was served in the licensed Restaurant where it was possible to have a drink and talk to your new friends.
Each evening there was entertainment and the bar opened at 5-00pm.
Morning tea was also provided each day on the tour.
The commentary on the coach was excellent as the commenter also lived in the area.
Some of the places we visited were: The Navel and Maritime Museum, Lennox Head, Thursday Plantation (known world wide for its therapeutic products, Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads, Twin Towns Service Club, Kingscliff, Brunswick Heads, Wardell, Lismore, Nimbin, Bangalow, Alistonville, (where we had some of the best tasteing pudding at father Mac's) Evens Head, New Italy,
Then when we had to pack up and fly home again.
The trip was well worth the experience.
The rooms were clean and tidy.
The Motel was about 1km from town and with in walking distance from the hotel and club.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the middle of the Motel ( it is right near the restaurant)
