“Wonderful B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Stayed two nights here. Beautiful old home and great hosts, Hugh and Chef Debra whose breakfasts are delicious. Would highly recommend and would definitely return. Very enjoyable. Well situated for visiting Ottawa, but away from the hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: Georgian suite is very spacious.

What can we say? Our best friends treated us to an evening dinner/accommodations and breakfast. Chef Debra and her right arm Hugh - have taken this B&B to the highest level of excellence in accommodations and cuisine. The entire house is decorated perfectly Victorian. Hugh and Debra make you feel welcome in their home the minute you arrive and continue until the moment you depart. The 5 course meal prepared by Debra was OVER the top exquisite and Hugh's constant attention to detail and service was above and beyond! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed Hugh's stories and banter throughout the evening and next morning. As well as we were fortunate that Debra found time from the kitchen for a story or two which made us all laugh! Again, we can't say enough about the quality, presentation, taste of all the food we enjoyed AS WELL as the accommodations were excellent. Do not miss this B&B!!!

Room Tip: We had the Georgian Suite

My husband and I have had the absolute delight of visiting Millisle at least a couple of times a year and on our last visit a week ago, we decided it was time to put our thoughts in writing as we often rely on TripAdvisor recommendations when we travel.
Whenever our lives become too chaotic, we simply make a phone call to reserve a room at the Millisle Bed and Breakfast in beautiful Merrickville. From the moment we walk in the door we feel like we have arrived at the home of very good friends – the genuine warm welcome, the offer of a glass of wine once we’re settled in, the pampering you receive until you’re walking out the door to go home is second to none!
The rooms are beautifully appointed (our favourites are either the Georgian Suite or the Empire Room) however, you will not be disappointed with any of the rooms. The house is spotlessly clean and Debra and Hugh take great pride in making your stay perfect!
If you are able to book a dinner with your host and hostess (Hugh and Debra) I strongly recommend you do so – you will not be disappointed! Hugh completes the experience with his wonderful wit, interesting conversation and service excellence! Debra is an executive chef who will knock your socks off with her cooking talents – you will never think of breakfast the same!!
We are looking forward to our next visit already!

The norm would be a night or two, but a long-haul family wedding trip meant that changing location was not on the cards. Deborah and Hugh were charming, talented and generally delightful. Now back in England and have tried to re-create the stunning breakfast spread here at home...not possible! I would recommend Millisle to any discerning traveller without hesitation.

We were three couples ranging in age from 60 to 70 and just off an open boat adventure along the Rideau Canal. We arrived soaking wet and were greeted in the most warm, friendly and accommodating manner possible. We are a gregarious group and ready for a good time no matter where we are. After several days of vigorous locking, the delightfully elegant porch was a great place to relax and laugh. We even had our own good scotch and other libation out ready for a not so quiet evening. Our hosts, Debra and Hugh, could not have been more gracious offering us wine as soon as we settled into our seats. Their wine filled cooler was at our disposal. Although out for a good time, we were extremely aware that this B & B accommodation was in a beautiful private home and we were the guests. We had a grand time and our gracious hosts were a delight.

Our rooms were spacious, scrupulously clean, comfortable and delightfully elegant in their historic décor. ‘Grand’ is the best word for it. We are all seasoned travelers in North America and the rest of the world too. Two couples from Manotick, Ontario and one couple from Florida. All three couples rated this as one of the best B & B experiences. Our standards are high and they were all certainly met or exceeded. The good variety of ‘gourmet chef’ prepared food for breakfast was divine and perfectly prepared and served. Sautéed salmon on eggs…….amazing.

The setting for this B & B was within steps of restaurants, the beautiful Rideau locks and waterway and shopping in historic Merrickville. Our boat was moored only a few steps away. The house is a beautiful example of Merrickville’s renown architecture and the grounds were absolutely enchanting. We would all stay there again and delighted to tell all who we know about it.

It has been my immense pleasure to have stayed at the Mllisle many times in all four seasons over the past several years. From the moment I step in the door I feel a wave of contentment wash over me. I know I am going to love my room, love the food and especially enjoy warm and meaningful and sometimes very amusing chats with Debra and Hugh. Debra is a chef extraordinaire-i know this from dinners I have eaten at the inn and from three elegant parties where each course was mouthwatering. The atmosphere-a result of the combination of charming old-fashioned decor and the conviviality of the hosts is truly a delight.

Room Tip: I am partial to the third floor rooms but they are all great.
