“Certainly not fine dinning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

Food was dried up or over cooked. Vegetables same everyday and looked unappetising. The Taste restaurant in the same hotel was very good indeed.

Lovely wines, good food, excellent staff. Sadly no lobster available. Introduced to excellent Cornish Baccus wine-yummy.

“Great food with good range and something for everyone.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

We dined at this formal restaurant whilst staying at The Carlyon Bay Hotel (of which it is a part) and found a high-quality english and continental breakfast with great range along with delectable dinners in the evening which were good value at the inclusive price of £20 pppn (£38 for non-residents / B&B only) however the wine-list or 'bible' (it was that long!) was expensive. The service was excellent with friendly, courteous and attentive staff. Would definitely return.

“Wonderful food in a wonderful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2010

This restaurant is situated in the Carlyon Bay Hotel in St Austell where I recently returned from after a break of one week. The restaurant is open to non-residents as well as paying guests. If you choose bed, breakfast and evening meal as we did - to eat there is included in the price. For bed and breakfast only or non-residents the cost was £38 for 3-course menu. The portions are not huge but satisfying and there are lots of choices. I noticed that a vegetarian menu was available, but I did not see it. The menu starts with a little taster served in an expresso cup, e.g. pumpkin soup or a little cheese doughnut. You are not obliged to have this, of course if you just want to try, why not, but everyday was different, then you start the menu, starter, mains and desserts, normally four choices in each. The vegetable accompaniements are served in little bowls and everyone gets 2, one of veg and one of potatoes, plenty to eat but obviously only if you like that particular vegetable. The service is first-class and tap water is offered if wanted. We had slightly carbonated Cornish water in a bottle which was delicious. Wines/champagne are extra of course. Coffee for residents is served in the lounge after dinner. We never went hungry.
